A method of lowering MFR response of a high-melt-flow-rate-polymer-producing metallocene catalyst is provided. The method includes contacting the metallocene catalyst with a sufficient quantity of &#x3b1;,&#x3c9;-diene monomer such that when the catalyst composition is contacted with polymerizable reactants under suitable polymerization conditions, the resulting polymer has an MFR rate in the range of 0.1 to 1000. Hydrogen and ethylene may also be present in the polymerization. Additionally a catalyst composition is provided which includes a high-melt-flow-rate-polymer-producing metallocene catalyst and a sufficient quantity of &#x3b1;,&#x3c9;-diene monomers such that when the catalyst composition is contacted with a monomer under polymerization conditions, the resulting polymer has an MFR rate in the range of 0.1 to 1000.

Olefin polymerization process to produce branched polymer compositions

The co-polymerization reaction of one or more olefin monomers, such as propylene, with &#x3b1;,&#x3c9;-diene units and the resulting copolymers are provided. More specifically, the copolymer may have from 90 to 99.999 weight percent of olefins and from 0.001 to 2.000 weight percent of &#x3b1;,&#x3c9;-dienes. The copolymer may have a weight average molecular weight in the range from 50,000 to 2,000,000, a crystallization temperature in the range from 115&#xb0; C. to 135&#xb0; C. and a melt flow rate in the range from 0.1 dg/min to 100 dg/min. These copolymers may be employed in a wide variety of applications, the articles of which include, for example, films, fibers, such as spunbonded and meltblown fibers, fabrics, such as nonwoven fabrics, and molded articles. The copolymer may further include at least two crystalline populations. Desirably, the melting point range of one of the crystalline populations is distinguishable from the melting point range of another crystalline population by a temperature range of from 1&#xb0; C. to 8&#xb0; C. More desirably, one of the crystalline populations has a melting point in the range from 152&#xb0; C. to 158&#xb0; C. and another crystalline population has a melting point in the range from 142&#xb0; C. to 148&#xb0; C.

Propylene diene copolymers

The present invention is a composition and a method of forming a composition, the composition comprising at least a halogenated elastomer and an amine or phosphine. An additional rubber component may be present in the composition of the invention. In one embodiment, the halogenated elastomer is a isoolefin copolymer comprising a halomethylstyrene derived unit. The amine or phosphine compound is represented by the formula (RRR)Q, wherein Q is a Group 15 element, and wherein Ris either hydrogen or a Cto Chydrocarbyl group, Ris either hydrogen or a Cto Chydrocarbyl group; and Ris either hydrogen or a Cto Chydrocarbyl group provided that at least one of R, Rand Ris not hydrogen. The additional rubber is selected from butyl rubber, halogenated butyl rubber, star-branched butyl rubber, halogenated star-branched butyl rubber, isobutylene homopolymer, butadiene rubber, neoprene, nitrile rubbers, ethylene/propylene/diene terpolymers, ethylene/propylene copolymers, styrene butadiene rubbers, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, isoolefin/alkylstyrene copolymer, halogenated isoolefin/alkylstyrene copolymer, natural rubber, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, silicon rubber, propylene oxide polymer, and mixtures thereof.

Halogenated elastomeric compositions having improved stability and green strength

The invention provides a thermoplastic composition of C isoolefin copolymers including halomethylstyrene derived units blended with a hindered amine or phosphine of the structure R R R N or R R R P wherein R , R and R are preferably lower and higher alkyl groups. The resulting ionically associated, amino or phosphine modified elastomers are used to prepare thermoplastic elastomer blend compositions, including dynamically vulcanized compositions, containing more finely dispersed elastomers which results in compositions having improved mechanical properties.

Thermoplastic compositions for halogenated elastomers

The co-polymerization reaction of one or more olefin monomers, such as propylene, with &agr;,&ohgr;-diene units and the resulting copolymers are provided. More specifically, the copolymer may have from 90 to 99.999 weight percent of olefins and from 0.001 to 2.000 weight percent of &agr;,&ohgr;-dienes. The copolymer may have a weight average molecular weight in the range from 50,000 to 2,000,000, a crystallization temperature in the range from 115&deg; C. to 135&deg; C. and a melt flow rate in the range from 0.1 dg/min to 100 dg/min. These copolymers may be employed in a wide variety of applications, the articles of which include, for example, films, fibers, such as spunbonded and meltblown fibers, fabrics, such as nonwoven fabrics, and molded articles. The copolymer may further include at least two crystalline populations. Desirably, the melting point range of one of the crystalline populations is distinguishable from the melting point range of another crystalline population by a temperature range of from 1&deg; C. to 8&deg; C. More desirably, one of the crystalline populations has a melting point in the range from 152&deg; C. to 158&deg; C. and another crystalline population has a melting point in the range from 142&deg; C. to 148&deg; C.

Articles formed from propylene diene copolymers

This invention relates to compositions derived from polyolefins combined with a polymeric nucleating agent. The nucleating agent is specifically a diene-propylene copolymer.

Diene-modified propylene polymer nucleating agents

The present invention relates generally to rubber compositions having improved green strength and thermal stability. These compositions comprise blends of a first rubber component, an isoolefin/para-alkylstyrene copolymer component, and an amine component reacted in situ prior to curing. The present invention further relates to methods for preparing these compositions.

Rubber blends having improved stability and green strength

Polyisobutylene (PIB) functionalized with terminal reactive unsaturation is disclosed. Carbocationically polymerized monohalogen-terminated PIB is dehydrohalogenated in a hydrocarbon solvent using an alkoxide of the formula RO-M wherein R is alkyl of at least 5 carbon atoms and M is alkali metal. The PIB obtained has terminal unsaturation which is 100% in the reactive 'exo' form which can be converted to succinic anhydride groups (PIB-SA) by the ene reaction with maleic anhydride. The PIB-SA is reactive with amine functional dendrimers to obtain a star-branched polymer having a dendrimer core and PIB branches joined by succinimide linkages. Blends of the star-branched polymer with polypropylene have improved energy absorption properties and controllable moisture/oxygen permeabilities useful in films.

This invention relates generally to foamable crystalline propylene polymers obtained from metallocene catalysis and to their methods of production. The foamed crystalline propylene polymers have molecular weight distributions and densities that fall within broad ranges. The crystalline propylene polymers may be prepared in a multiple stage polymerization process using a combination of metallocene components in at least two stages.

Polypropylene copolymer foams and their use

Disclosed are compositions comprising: a) an ethylene polymer component having a melting temperature greater than or equal to about 75&deg; C., an ethylene crystallinity level of 5 weight percent or more, and a narrow compositional distribution; and b) a propylene polymer component having a melt flow rate of 500 dg/min. or more at 230&deg; C. and a melting temperature greater than or equal to about 125&deg; C. Blends of polyethylene and polypropylene

Improved thermoplastic polymer soft elastic fiber blend compositions including a crystalline isotactic polypropylene component and a crystallizable alpha-olefin and propylene copolymer component, the copolymer comprising crystallizable alpha-olefin sequences. In a preferred embodiment, improved thermoplastic polymer blends are provided prepared from 0% to 95%, preferably 2% to 40% of the crystalline isotactic polypropylene and from 5% to 100%, preferably 60% to 98% of a crystallizable ethylene and propylene copolymer, wherein said copolymer comprises isotactically crystallizable propylene sequences and is predominately propylene. The resultant blends manifest unexpected compatibility characteristics, increased tensile strength, and, improved resistance to elastic deformation.
