The present disclosure relates to an ionic liquid composition and a process for its preparation. The process of the present disclosure is simple, single pot and efficient process for preparing the ionic liquid composition which is effective in a Friedel Craft reaction like, alkylation reaction, trans-alkylation, and acylation. The present disclosure envisages an ionic liquid composition comprising at least one metal hydroxide; at least one metal halide; and at least one solvent. Also envisaged is a process for preparing an ionic liquid composition. The process comprises mixing in a reaction vessel, at least one metal hydroxide and at least one metal halide in the presence of at least one solvent under a nitrogen atmosphere and continuous stirring followed by cooling under continuous stirring to obtain the ionic liquid composition.

The present disclosure relates to a process for preparing linear alkyl benzne (LAB). The process comprises alkylation of benzene with an alkylating agent in the presence of an ionic liquid to obtain a first product mixture comprising a first organic phase and a first aqueous phase comprising first partially spent ionic liquid. The first organic phase is deacidified and fractionally distilled to obtain a fraction comprising LAB and a fraction comprising HAB. The fraction comprising HAB is transalkylated with benzene in the presence of the ionic liquid to obtain a second product mixture comprising a second organic phase comprising LAB and a second aqueous phase comprising second partially spent ionic liquid. The partially spent ionic liquids are regenerated, and reused in the steps of alkylation or transalkylation for at least 6 cycles.

Process for preparing linear alkyl benzene

The present disclosure provides a process for oxidation of p-xylene to terephthalic acid. Recovery of fluid medium and valuable chemicals in carried out using p-xylene as fluid medium which is also the starting material. The recovered stream containing p-xylene, acetic acid and other valuable chemicals is recycled to the oxidation step. The process disclosed in the present disclosure is energy efficient and cost effective.

Process for oxidation of alkyl aromatic compound to aromatic carboxylic acid

The present disclosure provides a process for recovering and recycling a catalyst from the mother liquor generated during the production of aromatic carboxylic acids. The process comprises treating the mother liquor with an alkyl aromatic compound and further treating the first aqueous layer obtained with an ionic liquid to obtain a catalyst rich aqueous mixture. The catalyst rich aqueous mixture is recycled to the oxidation reactor.

The present disclosure provides a composition for preparing terephthalic acid; said composition comprises p-Toluic acid in an amount of 0.05% to 4% with respect to the total mass of the composition; at least one catalyst in an amount of 0.02% to 2.5% with respect to the total mass of the composition; at least one ionic liquid in an amount of 0.04% to 50% with respect to the total mass of the composition; at least one carboxylic acid solvent; and p-xylene. The present disclosure also provides a process for preparing terephthalic acid.

The present disclosure provides an ionic liquid compound of Formula (I) and its application in reactions such as alkylation, arylation, acylation, diels alder and oligomerization,  The present disclosure also provides a process for preparing the ionic liquid compound of Formula (I) which involves preparing an ionic salt complex represented by Formula [(NRRR)M][X]by mixing an amine represented by Formula NRRRand a metal salt represented by formula MX; and mixing the ionic salt complex and a metal salt represented by formula MYto obtain the ionic liquid compound.

The present disclosure provides a composition for preparing aryl carboxylic acid; said composition comprising: at least one ionic liquid, at least one catalyst, at least one non-oxidizable polar solvent, and at least one oxidizable multi-alkylated arylene compound with no two successive ring positions bearing alkyl group. The present disclosure also provides a process for preparing aryl carboxylic acid.

Ionic liquid composition

The present disclosure provides a process for regenerating the deactivated ionic compound. The process involves mixing a deactivated ionic compound with at least one solvent such as ethyl acetate and neutralizing with at least one base such as triethylamine and tert-butyl amine to obtain a precipitate. The obtained precipitate is filtered to obtain a residue which is then washed with a solvent such as dichloromethane to obtain the ionic compound.

In the present disclosure, a process for separating aryl carboxylic acids from a mixture comprising a plurality of aryl carboxylic acids is provided, wherein the process comprising the steps of heating a first mixture that comprises at least two aryl carboxylic acids wherein each of said aryl carboxylic acids having a pre-determined liquefaction temperature and a pre-determined precipitation temperature, with at least one ionic compound, at a pre-determined temperature to obtain a liquefied composition; and cooling the liquefied composition under controlled temperature conditions to fractionally crystallize and precipitate an aryl carboxylic acid. The precipitated aryl carboxylic acid is isolated and the obtained mother liquor is subjected to iterated cooling steps until each of the remaining aryl carboxylic acids precipitates one by one. The mother liquor remains in liquefied form.

Process for separating aryl carboxylic acids

A process for preparing alditol Acetals via a dehydrocondensation reaction is disclosed. The reaction is carried out by adding an aldehyde and an aldiol using a metal salt based ionic liquid as an acid catalyst. The ionic liquid used in the process is prepared by dissolving a hydrogen donor and a compound providing counter ion in a solvent.

Process for preparing alditol acetals

A process for the preparation of 1,3:2,4-bis(4-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol (MDBS) and 1,3:2,4-bis(3,4-dimethylbenzylidene)sorbitol (DMDBS) via a dehydrocondensation reaction is disclosed. The reaction is carried out between an aldehyde and an alditol in a mole ratio of 2:1 wherein ionic fluid is used as the acidic catalyst and/or reaction medium. The ionic fluid used in accordance with the present invention is quaternary ammonium salt based ionic liquid.

Process for preparation of acetals

This invention is directed to a process for preparation of acetal derivatives, 1,3:2,4-bis(3,4-dimethylbenzylidene)sorbitol (DMDBS) and 1,3:2,4-bis(4-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol (MDBS) by carrying out a dehydrocondensation reaction between an aldehyde and an alditol using an aqueous ionic fluid as the acid catalyst.

Method of making diacetal compound in aqueous medium

The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of 1,3:2,4-bis (4-methylbenzylidene) sorbitol (MDBS) and 1,3:2,4-bis (4-dimethylbenzylidene) sorbitol (DMDBS) by dehydrocondensating an aldehyde and an alditol using a hydrophobic ionic liquid as an acid catalyst. The ionic liquid used in the accordance with the process of the present invention is a phosphonium ion based ionic liquid.
