Aspects described herein provide designs to reduce the probability of persistent PF/PO conflicts of different subscriptions for a multi-SIM/USIM UE. A base station may be configured to determine a first conflict avoidance PO based on one or more modified parameters associated with the first conflict avoidance PO. The base station may be further configured to transmit a first paging message in the first conflict avoidance PO in a first DRX cycle. A UE may be configured to receive the one or more modified parameters in SIB. The UE may be configured to determine the first conflict avoidance PO based on the one or more modified parameters. The UE may be further configured to receive the first paging message in the first conflict avoidance PO in the first DRX cycle.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for quick radio link control (RLC) retransmission on hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) failure during tune away. According to certain aspects, a method for wireless communications is provided. The method generally includes performing communications with a base station (BS) using radio components tuned to a first air interface, detecting a tune-away of the radio components from the first air interface to a second air interface while performing the communications, and scheduling one or more packets for retransmission to the BS upon completion of the tune-away, wherein the one or more packets are one or more packets that failed to be transmitted due to the tune-away.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Some wireless devices (e.g., dual subscriber identity modules (SIM) devices) may support two subscriptions such that while one subscription is actively transmitting or receiving, the other subscription is put on standby. The wireless device may identify collisions in time between monitored paging messages associated with the first and second subscriptions. Accordingly, the wireless device may modify a radio access technology (RAT) priority setting for one of the subscriptions, such that paging messages may be received via a RAT different that the RAT used for the other subscription (e.g., following a cell reselection procedure performed according to the modified RAT priority). Operation using a modified RAT priority setting may be referred to as a fallback mode, which may be exited upon expiration of a timer. Additionally, discontinuous reception (DRX) durations associated with the RATs used for subscription paging may be reduced.

Embodiments include methods implemented by a processor of a mobile communication device for managing tune-aways by a radio frequency resource supporting a first subscription to support a second subscription. The processor may determine a data loss ratio of the data of a media file that is lost in transmission to the mobile communication device. The processor may compare the data loss ratio of the data to a first data loss ratio threshold and a second data loss ratio threshold, and the processor may block a tune-away event of the radio frequency resource from the first subscription to the second subscription in response to determining that the data loss ratio of the data is greater than the first data loss ratio threshold and less than the second data loss ratio threshold.

Various embodiments include a device processor that may monitor a data loss from a broadcast data stream received by a radio frequency (RF) resource of a multi-subscription multi-standby (MSMS) communication device using a first subscription. In response to determining that an amount of the monitored data loss plus an amount of expected data loss from anticipated tune-aways to a second subscription and a third subscription does not meet a first data loss threshold, the device processor may determine whether an amount of the monitored data loss plus an amount of expected data loss from an anticipated tune-away to a third subscription meets a second data loss threshold. The device processor may prevent the tune-away to the third subscription in response to determining that the amount of the monitored data loss plus the expected data loss from the anticipated tune-away to the third subscription meets the second data loss threshold.

Managing tune-aways in a multi-subscription multi-standby communication device

Dynamic forward error correction (FEC) setting is discussed in which the network determines a FEC percentage for each video segment of a video streaming service, based on consideration of the transfer length of the video segment and the allocated bandwidth. When the transfer length and allocated bandwidth reflect transmission of less than peak bandwidth, the network will determine a higher FEC percentage that uses the otherwise wasted bandwidth to transmit additional redundancy symbols. The additional redundancy symbols increase the error recovery rate when collisions occur between streaming video reception and page monitoring occasions of other networks in multi-network, multi-subscriber identification module (SIM) mobile devices. A network entity may then transmit the dynamic FEC percentage for each video segment in the file description table (FDT) associated with the video streaming service.

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The UE determines a failure to receive an MSI for a first MSP. The UE attempts to decode one or more subframes in the first MSP. The UE detects an occurrence of an MSP abort decoding event. The UE determines that the first MSP does not include any subframe that carries MBMS data of an MBMS segment based on the detection of the MSP abort decoding events. The UE aborts the attempt to decode the one or more subframes.

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communication devices and methods configured to operate with multiple communication protocols in tune-away operations. Some aspects of the present disclosure may improve the legacy tune-away operations at an access terminal. An access terminal establishes a call utilizing a first communication protocol, tunes away from the call to receive cell signaling utilizing a second communication protocol, and tunes back to the call utilizing the first communication protocol. Following the tuning back, during a first predetermined number of subframes and if the size of a reverse link (RL) packet is smaller than a first packet size and larger than a second packet size, the access terminal forces the RL packet to be a low latency (LoLat) packet.

Apparatus and method for improving data throughput of a tune-away operation in a wireless communication system

An apparatus and method for efficiently decoding data received in the form of data packets is provided. The design includes at least one decoding unit configured to receive and decode multiple packet groups, each packet group comprising a plurality of data packets received over at least one wireless transmission channel; a buffer arrangement configured to collect complete and incomplete packet groups received over each wireless transmission channel, and a processor configured to direct data packets from the at least one decoding unit to specific locations in the buffer arrangement. The processor further inserts later received data packets into associated packet groups maintained in the buffer arrangement to minimize sequence gaps in the data packets. The design subsequently provides multiple packet groups and any later received data packets from the buffer arrangement to a resequencer.
