An apparatus for fastening around a cranial burr hole includes a substantially flat core and a shell encapsulating a ring portion of the core. The shell defines an orifice substantially centered within the ring portion, and has a contoured lower surface to match the cranial curvature. Pliable arms of the core extend laterally from the ring portion, each being terminated by a fastener member. A central portion of a placement tool for the apparatus has a lower part configured to extend through the apparatus orifice, and an upper part from which first and second arms of the tool extend laterally. Each tool arm is terminated with a receptacle to hold a bone screw, and, when the tool central portion lower part extends through the apparatus orifice, each receptacle aligns with a corresponding fastener member, and lower openings of the receptacles are generally oriented along the contoured lower surface.

An example medical device includes a plurality of electrodes, therapy delivery circuitry, and processing circuitry configured to control the therapy delivery circuitry to deliver electrical stimulation to an intercostal nerve of a patient via at least two of the plurality of electrodes, wherein the electrical stimulation is delivered with stimulation parameters configured to suppress ventricular tachyarrhythmia of the patient, wherein the stimulation parameters comprise a stimulation frequency less than or equal to 40 hertz (Hz).

Techniques, systems and apparatus for anchoring a therapy delivery device within a body portal are disclosed. An anchoring apparatus may comprise a first part comprising an outer sidewall and opposing grip surfaces. The outer sidewall may extend around a longitudinal axis of the apparatus to define an outer perimeter, at least a portion which may engage a surface of the body portal. A second part may comprise first and second activation members and a slot configured to receive the therapy delivery device. When the therapy delivery device is received in the slot and the second part is moved generally along the longitudinal axis, the first and second activation members may move the opposing grip surfaces toward one another to thereby anchor the therapy delivery device between the opposing grip surfaces.

The disclosure describes a medical lead system that includes a first lead portion and a second lead portion. The first lead portion includes a first elongate body extending along a longitudinal axis from a distal end to a proximal end and defining a coupling recess. The second lead portion includes a second elongate body extending along the longitudinal axis from a distal end to a proximal end and a connector defining a channel configured to receive the proximal end of the first lead portion. The connector includes a coupling member configured to, when the first lead portion is inserted into the channel, mechanically engage the coupling recess to secure the first lead portion to the second lead portion at least in an axial direction relative to the longitudinal axis.

Screwless implantable medical lead extension

An assembly for a medical lead includes an elongated lead body, and a conductive element located at a distal portion of the lead body. The conductive element substantial!)' encircles a longitudinal axis of the lead body. The assembly further includes a plurality of insulated conductors extending within the lead body, each of the insulated conductors being in electrical contact with the conductive element and extending to a proximal end of the lead body. Each of the insulated conductors contacts a different circumferential portion of the conductive element. The conductive element is configured to facilitate mechanical and electrical separation of different circumferential portions of the conductive element to form two or more electrode segments for the medical lead from the conductive element.

An instrument holding system for a drive system is provided. The system can include an array holder that defines at least one bore for receipt of an instrument therethrough. The at least one instrument can be adapted for insertion into an anatomy. The array holder can be in communication with the drive system to receive a driving force. The system can include a fixation plate operable to move relative to the array holder such that the fixation plate is in contact with at least a portion of the at least one instrument to couple the at least one instrument to the array holder to enable the at least one instrument to be driven by the driving force into the anatomy.

A deep brain stimulation lead includes a distal end portion having a length of greater than 5 millimeters and a largest outer diametric dimension of 1 millimeter or less. One or more electrodes are disposed at the distal end portion. The lead also includes a proximal end portion having one or more contacts electrically coupled to the one or more electrodes. The lead further includes a mid portion between the proximal end portion and the distal end portion. The mid portion has an outer diametric dimension of greater than 1 millimeter and is configured and positioned to be located in proximity to a burr hole of a skull of patient when the distal end portion is positioned in the brain of the patient at a location to deliver a signal to a target region.

A system for securing at least one electrode to an anatomy is provided. The system can include a first plate, which can include at least one first passage. The at least one first passage can be configured to receive a lead of the at least one electrode. The system can also include a second plate configured to move relative to the first plate. The movement of the second plate relative to the first plate can couple the second plate to the first plate such that the second plate at least partially occludes the at least one passage of the first plate to secure the lead of the at least one electrode to the anatomy.

Method and apparatus for securing an electrode

A system for securing at least one electrode to an anatomy is provided. The system can include a first plate, which can include at least one first passage. The at least one first passage can be configured to receive a lead of the at least one electrode. The system can also include a second plate configured to move relative to the first plate. The movement of the second plate relative to the first plate can at least partially occlude the at least one passage of the first plate to secure the lead of the at least one electrode to the anatomy.

Certain aspects of the disclosure pertain to methods and apparatus for providing positive fixation of medical components to a portion of incised pericardial tissue. Accordingly, a resilient member protrudes through an incision in the pericardium and produces a positive biasing force to adjacent pericardial tissue against a side surface of an attached body structure. The resilient member can optionally be compressed during implantation and then relaxed to thereafter provide the positive biasing force. Diverse medical components can thus be safely and reliably chronically deployed into the pericardial space, including without limitation, cardiac sensing/pacing, defibrillation and/or cardioversion electrodes, mechanical and/or metabolic sensors and the like. More than one body structure can be linked to a single medical electrical lead and the medical components can couple within and/or upon a portion of the body structure, the resilient member, and the lead in myriad configurations.
