An emitting driver is operable to control, upon receipt of at least one emitted signal, an optical emitter to emit at least one emitted signal. A processor is coupled to the at least one optical emitter and operable to execute instructions to generate the at least one emitted signal. At least one photodetector is operable to detect one or more photons transmitted through tissue and to convert the detected photons into a detected signal. A hardware processing sequence is coupled to the photodetector and processor. The hardware processing sequence is operable to filter and condition the detected signal. The processor is operable to execute instructions to demodulate the at least one emitted signal and the detected signal.

Wearable athletic monitoring using digital modulation

A system and method operable to monitor hydration and drink activity using one or more body-worn sensors and contextual information to more accurately detect drinking motions made by the user. The system and method can use an application encoded on a non-transitory computer-readable medium to receive disparate data from the one or more sensors to determine if the user has made a drinking motion. The analysis can be further refined using contextual information and a variable threshold to more accurately identify drinking motions.

Provided herein are methods and devices configured to detect the heart rate of a user. The method includes receiving at least one input signal, separating the input signal into signal components, receiving a motion signal from the user, and applying a Bayesian filter to the signal components and the motion signal to estimate the heart rate of the user. The method further includes calculating a combination of at least two reflected light signals from at least two different wavelengths. The device includes a photodetector configured to detect at least one reflected light signal resulting from the emitted at least two different wavelengths and a motion detector for detecting a motion signal. A system for page-based optical data storage includes a sensor array positioned to track a data page when the data page is optically read from or recorded to a storage medium. A servo mechanism is used to position the sensor array. A plurality of alignment points are defined relative to the photodetector pixel array. An alignment arrangement is located at each alignment point. The sensor array further includes servo-feedback signal generation logic operative to drive the servo mechanism based on error signals from the alignment arrangements, thereby aligning the two-dimensional photodetector array with respect to the two-dimensional data page.
