A reader device for detecting a test result from a testing element carrying a sample includes a radiation source for emitting electromagnetic radiation, an optical system for directing the electromagnetic radiation to the testing element, and a detector for receiving electromagnetic radiation from the testing element and for producing a detection signal responsive to the received electromagnetic radiation. The optical system includes a guide rod for conducting electromagnetic radiation and a lens system for focusing the electromagnetic radiation coming out via an egress-end surface of the guide rod to the testing element. The egress end-surface of the guide rod has an elongated shape so that a radiation pattern having an elongated shape is produced on the testing element. The elongated shape of the radiation pattern facilitates scanning the testing element with the electromagnetic radiation.

Test strip reader device and a method for detecting a test result

An apparatus for measuring an optical component () of the apparatus, the apparatus comprising a radiation source () configured to form a measuring beam in a measuring channel (), wherein the measured optical component configured to be in a first position outside the measuring channel and in a second position in the measuring channel; a first detector () configured to receive beams in the measuring channel; a second detector () configured to receive beams in the measuring channel; at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to select at least one of the first detector and the second detector to receive beams in the measuring channel, the measuring channel () being integrated to a photometer or a fluorescence channel of the apparatus; receive a first beam, using the selected detector, in the measuring channel, wherein the measured optical component is in the first position; receive a second beam, using the selected detector, in the measuring channel, wherein the measured optical component is in the second position; and determine the characteristics of the optical component based on the first beam and the second beam.

An apparatus for optically measuring samples, including a radiation source configured to form an excitation beam in an excitation channel, a detector configured to detect an emission beam in an emission channel and a filter configured to be located, in an excitation position, in the excitation channel, and in an emission position, in the emission channel. The apparatus further includes a first filter storage comprising a first set of filter storage positions, a second filter storage comprising a second set of filter storage positions, and a filter transfer mechanism configured to move the filter between the excitation position, the emission position, the first set of filter storage positions and the second set of filter storage positions.

A lens and reflector unit for optical measurements includes first and second convex surface sections of the lens and reflector unit. Both have their respective central normal lines. A first flat surface section has a normal direction that divides the angle between the central normal lines into equal halves. A third convex surface section has a third central normal line, and the fourth convex surface section has a fourth central normal line. A second flat surface section has a normal direction that divides the angle between the third and fourth central normal lines into to equal halves.

Combined lens and reflector, and an optical apparatus using the same

The present technology relates generally to fibre optic cables their manufacture and uses in the field of optical measurements including biochemical laboratory instrumentation for measuring properties of samples on microtitration plates and corresponding sample supports. The technology has also applications in various laser technologies. A fibre optic cable has an active surface with a determined form provided at a first optical interface at the first end of the cable. The first end of the cable is fused into an exemplary circular form, the fused cable end including fibre ends both within the active surface and outside the active surface. At the opposite, second end of the cable, those fibres which have their first ends at the determined active surface area, are used for forming a second optical interface. It is possible to have high transmission efficiency in optical interfaces where other than circular cross section of the light beam exists.
