The invention relates to a method for generating entries for a database, which database is destined for supporting a positioning of a mobile terminal. In order to enable the generation of information for this database, the method calculating at least one position of a mobile terminal in a cell of a cellular network. The method further comprises determining geographical information on this cell based on the at least one calculated position of the mobile terminal in this cell. Finally, the method comprises providing the determined geographical information together with an identification of the cell for storage in the database. The invention relates equally to a unit and to a system in which such a method is implemented.

Generating entries for a database supporting a positioning of a mobile terminal

A method, corresponding apparatus and corresponding system for determining a dynamical quantity of a receiver of signals conveying information useful in estimating the dynamical quantity, the method including the steps of: providing a single-point solution, by solving for the dynamical quantity of the receiver using a single-point solution having as an input the information useful in estimating the dynamical quantity being determined; providing a plurality of filter solutions (such as predictive filter solutions), and each assuming a different motion model for the receiver; and combining the plurality of filter solutions to provide a first value of the dynamical quantity based on weights that take into account the likelihood of the suitability of each motion model, with the likelihood determined on the basis of agreement of the first value of the dynamical quantity compared with a second value of the dynamical quantity as indicated by a single-point solution.

Two-stage interacting multiple models filter for use in a global positioning system

The invention relates to a method for determining the position of an object to be searched for. The method applies a receiver (RX ) for the object to be searched substantially in the vicinity of the object to be searched, a receiver (RX ) for a searcher, with respect to which the position of the object to be searched is determined, and satellites (SV -SV ) from which a code-modulated random spectrum signal is transmitted, and positioning data of the satellites are determined. In the method, a default position (&boxur;{circumflex over (x)} ,&ycirc; ,{circumflex over (z)} ,{circumflex over (t)} &boxul;) is determined for the receiver (RX ) of the searcher; pseudo ranges (&rgr; ) to at least three satellites (SV -SV ) are measured on the basis of signals received from the satellites in the receiver (RX ) of the object to be searched; pseudo ranges (&rgr; ) to at least said three satellites (SV -SV ) are measured on the basis of signals received from the satellites in the receiver (RX ) of the searcher; and at least the direction and distance (&boxur;&Dgr;x,&Dgr;y,&Dgr;z,&Dgr;t&boxul;) of the object to be searched from the receiver (RX ) of the searcher are determined.

Method for determining the position of an object, a positioning system, a receiver and an electronic device

A method and corresponding apparatus and system for determining the position of a satellite at any instant of time between two sampling instants, based on information in at least one ephemeris message provided by the satellite, the information allowing the computation of the satellite positions at the two sampling instants. The method includes the steps of: computing the satellite positions at two sampling instants using parameters provided in one or more ephemeris messages with suitable times of ephemeris; and for each of the three dimensions of motion, constructing a polynomial of at least third degree by choosing the coefficients of the polynomial so that it interpolates the satellite position at each of the two sampling instants. Typically, the method also calls for computing the satellite velocities at each of the sampling instants, and choosing the coefficients of the polynomial for each of the three dimensions of motion so as to provide a polynomial that not only interpolates the satellite position at the two sampling instants, but has a first derivative that interpolates the satellite velocity at the two sampling instants. The polynomial and its derivative can then be evaluated at any desired time between the sampling instants to determine the spacecraft position and velocity, respectively, at the desired time. The method also provides for determining at least a fifth degree polynomial by using values of the spacecraft acceleration, at each of the sampling instants, calculated from the ephemeris information. The polynomial is typically a Hermite interpolating polynomial.
