Brain injury can be caused by trauma or may occur in stroke or neurodegenerative diseases. The disclosure relates to compositions that can include exosomes isolated from human adipose-derived stem cells (hASC) and methods where exosomes from hASC may be used alone or in combination with insulin for the treatment of brain injury.

Exosomes from human adipose-derived stem cells for the treatment of brain injury

The subject invention pertains to the use of fractalkine (FKN, CX3CL1) and its receptor CX3CR1 for treatment of neuroinflammation and/or neurodegeneration. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method for treatment of neuroinflammation and/or neurodegenerative diseases, comprising: administering, to cells of a subject in need of such treatment, an adeno-associated virus that comprises a functional fractalkine gene operably linked to transcriptional control elements. In one embodiment, the subject invention is used to treat or ameliorate Parkinson's disease. The present invention can also be used to treat or ameliorate neuroinflammatory and/or neurodegenerative diseases including, but not limited to, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, aging, and traumatic brain injury.

Recombinant adeno-associated virus-mediated expression of fractalkine for treatment of neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases

Provided herein are compositions, formulations, kits, and methods for improving or modifying cognitive performance in an individual having normal-age related cognitive decline. The composition can include an amount of a blueberry extract, L-carnosine, a green tea extract, vitamin D, and a grape extract. The composition can be included in a pharmaceutical formulation and be administered to a subject having normal-age related cognitive decline according to a dosing regimen.

Compositions and methods of improving cognitive performance

A method of treating traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other neurological disorders is presented herein. Both conditioned media (CM) containing long non-coding RNAs such as NEAT1 (nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1) and MALAT1 (metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1) as well as human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) themselves (Tx), when administered at least 3 hours post injury, were found to significantly ameliorate motor and cognitive functions in young, but not aged, mice undergoing TBI. Significant reduction in cortical damage and hippocampal cell loss was observed in both Tx and CM groups in young rats, whereas less neuroprotection was detected in the aged rats and mainly in the Tx group but not the CM group, which may in part result from decreased homing of the cells to the spleen.

Method of treating neurological disorders using long non-coding RNAs

A method and composition for stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells is used to self-repair injury in mammals. A supplement is administered having an effective dose of blueberry, carnosine, catechin, green tea extract, VitaBlue, Vitamin D3 or combinations of these. For example, a therapeutic amount of two or more of the supplements may be selected having a synergistic effect, allowing a lower dose to achieve the same or greater effective protection as a higher dose of any one of the supplements.
