Radial ball-and-socket joint for a motor vehicle

A rack-and-pinion steering is presented, in which an at least partially hollow cylindrical rack is used to ventilate and evacuate the bellows and in which at least one evacuation groove is prepared in the connection pin of the ball joint housing. The evacuation groove feeds or removes the air from the interior of the bellows via the hollow cylindrical rack corresponding to the direction of movement of the steering system.

A ball joint and a work process for preparing such a ball joint are described, in which the housing is prepared in one piece by a sheet metal shaping process. An edge bead, which is used to close the housing by a cover, is prepared by material deformation on the outer circumference of the housing. At a flat polar surface of the spherical head, the socket is provided with an annular area which applies under biasing load against the flat polar surface and, upon an angular displacement of the ball stud, produces a restoring torque.

A ball and socket joint for heavily loaded joint linkages in motor vehicles, comprises a ball stud with a spherical head, a socket embracing the spherical head and made of a material with limited elasticity, and a casing accommodating the socket and sealingly closed, on its side opposite to the ball stud, with a cambered cover of sheet metal. The cover applies by its inside and under biasing load against the deformable socket. In its portion contacting the socket, the cover is formed with a camber producing the effect that if the joint is loaded axially increasingly from the ball stud, the cover expands and becomes more tightly clamped in the casing.

A ball and socket joint for steering linkages of motor vehicle steering devices comprises a housing which has an open end with an interior generally spherical recess having a spherical bearing body therein with a cylindrical bore aligned with the open end. The link pin has a cylindrical shank portion extending through the cylindrical bore and terminated in an inner end of semi-spherical configuration which is spaced from the inner end of the recess by a gap and the head portion is spaced from the semi-spherical bearing body by an annular recess. A thrust spring embraces the pin and elastically supports the pin in the bearing body. The thrust spring comprises an outer metal sleeve and an inner metal sleeve with a central elastic sleeve therebetween.
