In some examples, the electrical cable can include one or more insulated electrical conductors and one or more metallic elements cabled together and a metallic layer disposed about the one or more insulated electrical conductors and the one or more metallic elements. The one or more metallic elements can partially fill a space located between the one or more insulated electrical conductors and the metallic layer. The one or more insulated electrical conductors can each include an electrically conductive core, a layer of electrically insulating material disposed about the electrically conductive core, and a layer of metallic strands disposed about the layer of electrically insulating material.

Systems, methods, and devices involving segmented radiation detectors are provided. For example, a segmented radiation detector may include a segmented scintillator and an optical-to-electrical converter. The segmented scintillator may have several segments that convert radiation to light, at least one of which may detect radiation arriving from an azimuthal angle around an axis of the segmented scintillator. The optical-to-electrical converter may be coupled to the segmented scintillator. The process of forming a wire can include applying a metal layer to a ferrous metal rod to form a plated rod, placing a metal strip alongside the rod, bending the strip around the rod, and seam welding the strip to form a metal tube around the rod. The process of forming a wire can include coating a ferrous wire core with a layer of nickel, molybdenum or a nickel alloy that circumferentially surrounds the ferrous wire core.

Systems, methods, and devices for two-way communication with a downhole tool string are provided. In one example, a method may include placing a downhole tool string into a pressure riser of a well while at least one component of the downhole tool string is not activated. Thereafter, a wireless control signal may be issued through the pressure riser to the downhole tool to cause the downhole tool string to activate the component. The wireless control signal may involve an acoustic signal, an optical signal, and/or an electromagnetic signal such as electrical dipole coupling or magnetic dipole coupling.
