Machine learning techniques are used, in one embodiment, to mitigate multipath in an L5 GNSS receiver. In one embodiment, training data is generated to provide ground truth data for excess path length (EPL) corrections for a set of received GNSS signals. A system extracts features from the set of received GNSS signals and uses the extracted features and the ground truth data to train a set of one or more neural networks that can produce EPL corrections for pseudorange measurements. The trained set of one or more neural networks can be deployed in GNSS receivers and used in the GNSS receivers to correct pseudorange measurements using EPL corrections provided by the trained set of neural networks.

Multipath mitigation in GNSS receivers with machine learning models

This disclosure describes methods, systems and machine readable media that can provide position solutions using, for example, pattern matching with GNSS signals in urban canyons. In one method, based upon an approximate location in an urban canyon and a set of 3D data about building structures in the urban canyon, an expected signal reception data can be generated for both line of sight and non-line of sight GNSS signals from GNSS satellites, or other sources of GNSS signals, at each point in a set of points in a grid (or other model) in the vicinity of the approximate location). This expected signal reception data can be matched to a received set of GNSS signals that have been received by a GNSS receiver, and the result of the matching can produce an adjustment to the approximate location that is used in the position solution of the GNSS receiver.

Global navigation satellite systems and methods use L5 GNSS signals to acquire secondary code phases of those signals without using L1 GNSS signals to aid in the acquisition of secondary code phases. Various embodiments are described to perform this acquisition.

Systems and methods are provided that gather and store time-series location information or other time-series information of a user using a mobile electronic device such as a smart phone and place that location information or other information under control of the user. A variety of types of analytics may be applied to the location information by consent of the user, and results may be shared by electronic consent of the user in order to provide benefit to the user. The benefit may be commercial, personal, social, etc. The information may be stored in encrypted form.

User-controlled, smart device-based location and transit data gathering and sharing

An improved extended ephemeris navigation receiver includes a fully autonomous satellite navigation receiver for receiving microwave transmissions from orbiting navigation system satellites, and able to demodulate navigation messages that include the ephemerides for those navigation system satellites. The improvements include a force model of the accelerations acting on a particular satellite vehicle, and are exclusive to the receiver. A single observation of the ephemeris for each SV is input and propagated days into the future by integrating each SV's orbital position with its corresponding force model. The fully autonomous satellite navigation receiver thereafter has available to it extended ephemeris predictions that can be used as substitutes when said navigation messages from the respective SV cannot otherwise be immediately obtained and demodulated.

Satellite navigation receivers with self-provided future ephemeris and clock predictions

A tightly coupled GPS and dead-reckoning system collects wheel speed transducer data over a vehicle's network to compute vehicle range and direction. The dead-reckoning bridges over gaps in navigation solutions that would otherwise occur when GPS signal transmission is lost in tunnels, parking garages, and other common situations. Continual calibration of the wheel radii and compensation for speed effects are calculated from GPS position fixes, and such improves the performance and accuracy of dead-reckoning during long outages of GPS signal reception. When the GPS signals are restored, the dead-reckoning solutions provide a high quality starting place for the GPS receiver to search around.

Tightly coupled GPS and dead-reckoning vehicle navigation

An improved network enabled extended ephemeris navigation system includes a network server able to collect ephemeris, clock, and almanac information from orbiting GPS satellites, and to use that information to build up extended ephemeris predictions that will be valid and useful for at least a week. A mobile client is able to request and use the extended ephemeris predictions to search for and track orbiting GPS satellites visible to it. The improvement is characterized by a satellite position and clock compact model construction and database unit that constructs a compact short-term satellite model to be sent first in response to a request for extended ephemeris predictions from the mobile client, and that constructs several consecutive long-term satellite models each representing a unique portion of a day in at least a seven day series.

A satellite navigation system assistance server is configured to reply to client requests that include an indication of the client's location, and if an accurate location is included in the server request, the satellite navigation system assistance server computes which particular SBAS systems are observable to the requesting client, and in this case the satellite navigation system assistance server limits its replies to pertinent information for a more compact response message.

A hybrid navigation satellite receiver and mobile telephone uses only two crystal oscillators. One that operates a master clock around 27-MHz and that consumes milliwatts of power. The other oscillator consumes only microwatts of power and operates continuously on battery power at about 32-KHz. Only the second, low frequency oscillator is kept running during power 'off'. On power 'restart', a real-time-clock counter is consulted to cause an estimate of the GPS system time to be regenerated and supplied to the GPS-DSP to quicken its initialization. The master clock is GPS-calibrated, and the accurate clock is used to drive NCO's for the mobile telephone part and host CPU.

A roving extended range high sensitivity satellite positioning system receiver provides position fixes in adverse signal conditions as low as minus 150 dbm and with as few as three satellites by measuring the bit phase of the navData message and the codephase, and finding a simultaneous solution. Previous position fixes that were obtained in the vicinity by earlier rovers are deposited in an indexed database for consultation. A cellular phone system can be used to simply communicate the current identity codes and their database entries.

Extended range high sensitivity SPS positioning receiver

A wireless handheld GPS-enabled device and supporting system comprises a wireless CPU that functions as a host processor, a GPS chipset to provide GPS measurements, and a GPS application hosted by the wireless CPU. Other applications are also hosted by the wireless CPU and are provided with position solutions from the GPS application. The GPS application calls for GPS aiding information from an Internet server via a TCP/IP socket provided by a GPRS link supported by the wireless CPU. Location area identifier (LAI) and 'breadcrumb' information are provided to the GPS application so it can skip having to make a z-count determination during initialization.
