A clip for securing furniture springs to furniture rails is provided including a body of metal material having a genereally flat base portion of rengaging the rial and a spring supporting portion extending out from the base portion and which curves back thereover to an edge thereof for maintaining a portion of a furniture spring in a substantially predetermined position relative to the rail. A plastic liner is secured to the curved spring supporting portion of the body for engaging the spring portion to minimize squeaking caused by metal-to-metal contact between the curved spring supporting portion of the clip body and the spring portion. At least one liner holding member is struck from the metal material of the curved spring supporting portion of the body and spaced from the edge thereof for keeping the liner against the curved spring supporting portion of the clip body.

Squeakless furniture spring anchor clip

A clip for securing furniture springs to furniture rails is provided including a body of metal material having a generally flat base portion for engaging the rail and a spring supporting portion extending out from the base portion and which curves back thereover to an edge thereof for maintaining a portion of a furniture spring in a substantially predetermined position relative to the rail. A plastic liner is secured to the curved spring supporting portion of the body for engaging the spring portion to minimize squeaking caused by metal-to-metal contact between the curved spring supporting portion of the clip body and the spring portion. At least one liner holding member is struck from the metal material of the curved spring supporting portion of the body and spaced from the edge thereof for keeping the liner against the curved spring supporting portion of the clip body.

An apparatus and method are provided for applying clips to mattress spring assemblies in a highly accurate and fast manner via operating or positioning members that properly position the innerspring coils relative to the borderwires for clipping thereof. Improperly positioned innersprings have their end coils shifted past the borderwires as they travel downstream to be clipped by the apparatus and method herein. In this manner, the positioning members are operable to use the progression of the spring assemblies as they are driven downstream to properly position the innerspring coils relative to the borderwires for being clipped thereto. Preferably, there is at least one positioning member disposed upstream from the clip applicator tool such as in a positioning station that acts to cause the end turns of the mattress innerspring coils as the innersprings move into engagement therewith, to progressively shift into the predetermined clipping orientation that is necessary for proper clipping of the end turns to the borderwires. The positioning member does not have to be cycled between operative and inoperative positions for each clip that is applied thus speeding the overall clipping process for the spring assembly.

Apparatus and method for securing borderwires to mattress innersprings

A clip and collected assembly thereof are provided and including a method of forming the clip and clip assembly. The clip is formed with at least one slot that has at least one projection for keeping a resilient cord press fit in the slot therein against forces tending to shift it out therefrom. Preferably, two parallel slots are provided for receiving two cords therein with there being two opposing projections extending into the slot opening from either side of the slot. The slot projections provide an attendant manufacturing benefit as the punches of the die press apparatus that punch slugs from the blank fed thereto will not suffer from slug pulling problems because of the presence of corresponding projections extending into the die cavity openings from either side thereof. In addition, while the clearances between the projection of the die cavity and the punches are at normal tight tolerances, the clearance between the cavity sides and ends and the punches are oversized so that burrs are formed on the corresponding clip slot sides and ends for gripping the cord and providing additional resistance to shifting in the slot. Improved configurations for the cords are also provided to meet the tolerances required for the press fit in the slots and to be readily severed by an application tool. Special shapes for the slot ends can be provided so that as the cords are press fit therein, areas of weakness will be created in the cords to assist in the severing thereof. Preferred cord materials include those that will not bead when run through spring tempering heat treat ovens, such as nylon and PBT.
