A bleed air selector valve allows selection and extraction of bleed air from a plurality of different engine bleed air ports to optimize engine efficiency and to maintain bleed requirements using a single line replaceable unit. The bleed air selector valve uses a relatively simple arrangement of poppets, check valves, and thermostatic compensation to augment high and low temperature to within acceptable limits. The bleed air selector valve significantly reduces weight, cost, envelope, and system complexity as compared to known two-port bleed systems with heat exchanger thermal compensation.

Bleed air selector valve

A pressure and flow altitude compensated shut off valve includes a valve body, a valve element, and an altitude compensation pilot valve. The valve body has an inlet port, an outlet port, and a flow passage extending between the inlet port and the outlet port. The valve element is disposed within the flow passage and is responsive to fluid pressure at the inlet port to move between a closed position, in which fluid may not flow through the flow passage, and a plurality of open positions between the closed position and a full-open position. The altitude compensation pilot valve is coupled to the valve body and is responsive to pressure variations at the second port to control the fluid pressure at which the valve element moves to the closed and open positions.

Pressure and flow altitude compensated shutoff valve

A valve assembly includes a valve body, a valve element, a valve actuator, and a fluid-operated switch. The valve body defines a flow passage. The valve element is disposed at least partially within the flow passage and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The valve actuator is coupled to the valve element and is responsive to pressurized fluid supplied thereto and vented therefrom to move the valve element between the open position and the closed position, respectively. The fluid-operated switch has a first fluid inlet, a second fluid inlet, a third fluid inlet, an actuator port, and an actuator vent port. The fluid-operated switch is in fluid communication with the valve actuator and is operable to selectively supply pressurized fluid to the actuator via the actuator port, and vent the pressurized fluid from the actuator via the actuator port and the actuator vent port.

Bi-directional overpressure shut-off valve

A diaphragm is provided that includes a plurality of zonal portions that define reinforced and non-reinforced areas of the diaphragm. A first zonal portion extends from a marginal edge portion toward a central portion and is formed of a fabric material. A second zonal portion extends from the first zonal portion toward the central portion and is formed of an elastomer. A third zonal portion defines the central portion and is formed of a fabric material. The combination of reinforced and non-reinforced portions provides for a decrease in the radial tension (spring rate) of the diaphragm and helps prevent undesired changes to the flow control valve flow setpoint.

Reinforced elastomeric diaphragm

A pressure pickup probe assembly includes a probe housing, a plurality of openings, and a pickup probe. The probe housing is configured to be mounted within, and extend at least substantially across, a flow passage. The probe housing further includes at least an inner surface and an outer surface. The probe housing inner surface defines at least a plenum therein. The plurality of openings is formed in the probe housing, and each opening extends between the probe housing inner and outer surfaces and is in fluid communication with the probe housing plenum. The pickup probe is disposed at least partially within the probe housing, and has at least a first end, a second end, and a bore extending between the first and second ends and that is in fluid communication with the probe housing plenum.

Omni-directional pressure pickup probe

A starter air valve assembly includes a valve body, a flow control valve, a rate control servo mechanism, and a valve actuator. The valve body defines a flow passage having at least an inlet port and an outlet port. The valve is disposed at least partially within the flow passage and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The rate control servo mechanism is adapted to receive pressurized fluid and is configured, upon receipt of the pressurized fluid, to supply a controlled flow of the pressurized fluid. The valve actuator is coupled to the valve and is in fluid communication with the rate control servo to thereby receive the controlled flow of the pressurized fluid. The valve actuator is configured, upon receipt of the controlled flow of the pressurized fluid, to move the valve between the closed position and the open position at a substantially controlled rate.

Pneumatic valve control using downstream pressure feedback and an air turbine starter incorporating the same

A starter air valve assembly includes a valve body, a flow control valve, a rate control servo mechanism, and a valve actuator. The valve body defines a flow passage having at least an inlet port and an outlet port. The valve is disposed at least partially within the flow passage and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The rate control servo mechanism is adapted to receive pressurized fluid and is configured, upon receipt thereof, to supply a controlled flow of the pressurized fluid. The valve actuator is coupled to the valve and is in fluid communication with the rate control servo to thereby receive the controlled flow of the pressurized fluid. The valve actuator is configured, upon receipt of the controlled flow of the pressurized fluid, to move the valve between the closed position and the open position at a substantially controlled rate.

Pneumatic valve control having improved opening characteristics and an air turbine starter incorporating the same

A system and method of using a variable geometry ejector for a bleed air system using integral bleed pressure feedback which utilizes a minimal amount of high-pressure air, thus improving the overall engine cycle performance and is easily adaptable to a multitude of different engine types. This is accomplished through the use of a variable ejector using downstream pressure feedback to control the flow and pressure.
