One or more lasers () form one or more crease lines () in a flexible wrapping material (). The flexible wrapping material is then folded about the one or more crease lines when encapsulating an item to be wrapped within the flexible wrapping material. The flexible wrapping material may have poor dead-fold characteristics and can comprise a flow-wrapping material. A single laser or multiple lasers can serve to form the one or more crease lines. The crease lines can be formed on a same side of the flexible wrapping material or on both sides thereof. By one approach, folding the flexible wrapping material about the one or more crease lines forms, at least in part, a form-factor conformal pocket to accommodate the aforementioned item. By another approach, folding the flexible wrapping material about the one or more crease lines forms, at least in part, a gusset.

Method and apparatus pertaining to a flexible wrapping material having laser-formed crease lines

A package is described herein with an opening feature including a flap defined by cut and score lines formed in a film of the package. The flap can be at least partially in a front wall portion of the package to be peeled back and expose an opening to an interior of the package. The flap can also extend across a package such that peeling back of the flap removes a portion of the package. The packages described herein advantageously include a sealed pleat extending across the front wall portion of the package or a fin seal that includes at least a portion of a gripping portion of the flap. The removal of the gripping portion when the flap is peeled back to open the package can expose an adhesive on the inside of the pleat for package reclose.

Food package having opening feature and methods of opening thereof

A package for a food product is provided and includes a fin seal, where the package is configured for controlled opening using an opening feature. The opening feature may include an integral flap separable from the remainder of the package to form an access opening to an interior of the package. The flap may be defined by one or more score or scribed lines that extend only partially through the package. The flap may have a portion extending into the fin seal area. Opening of the flap may expose adhesive of the fin seal area which can be utilized for attaching the flap to reclose the package.

A consumable product package assembly includes at least one consumable product and a package for enclosing the at least one product. The package includes an elongate body portion surrounding the product and a longitudinal seal extending at least partially along the length of the body portion. The seal has a pair of longitudinally spaced notches extending transversely to the distal edge of the seal. The notches define a grasping tab therebetween to initiate tearing of the body portion of the package transversely about the product. The body portion further includes at least one score location extending between the notches to weaken the package thereat to facilitate controlled tearing of the body portion.
