An object oriented framework provides a set of objects that perform chemical-process-development decision-support functioning and that permit a framework user to add extensions for specific processing features, thereby producing an application program that supports decision-making during chemical development activities. The framework includes a Chemical Process Definition Document category of classes for defining the chemical process, an Entity Creation category of classes for creating entities in the Chemical Process Definition Document, an Entity Validation category of classes for validating entities in the Chemical Process Definition, a Control category of classes for providing document control of the Chemical Process Definition Document, an Experimental Design category of classes for creating experimental designs, a Statistical Analysis category of classes for analyzing the results of designed experiments, and a Reporting category of classes for creating reports and analyses from the Chemical Process Definition Document. These classes provide the base framework upon which chemical-process-development decision-support application program is developed by the framework user.

A process for the full or partial resolution of a mixture of enantiomers of a genus of chiral carboxylic acids is disclosed. The process uses a pure enantiomer of 1-aminoindan-2-ol as the resolving agent and achieves separation of the diastereomeric salts by fractional crystallization followed by liberation of the chiral acid from the salt by treatment with mineral acid. Diastereomeric salts and solyates of those salts are disclosed. The production of ketoprofen, flurbiprofen and other chiral medicaments and precursors thereto is disclosed.

Process for resolving chiral acids with 1-aminoindan-2-ols

Supported liquid membrane delivery devices that release a beneficial agent to an aqueous environment following exposure to an environmental trigger. A microporous hydrophobic support membrane at least partially surrounds a beneficial agent- containing hydrophilic formulation. A hydrophobic liquid is held within the microporous support membrane by capillarity and the hydrophobic liquid is substantially permeable to the aqueous environment and the beneficial agent-containing hydrophilic formulation. The entrained hydrophobic liquid becomes substantially permeable to the aqueous environment upon exposure to an environmental trigger such as an enzyme, and the beneficial agent is subsequently released.

Supported liquid membrane delivery devices

The present invention discloses a method for the enzymatic synthesis of a peptide. A protected peptide having a C-terminal carboxylate group or a protected, N-acyl amino acid having an alpha carboxylate group is reacted with a protected peptide having an N-terminal ammonium group or a protected amino acid having an alpha ammonium group in the presence of a condensation enzyme under conditions in which the carboxylate group and the ammonium group condense to form a protected, uncharged, peptide product. This peptide product is transported across a water-immiscible hydrophobic phase into an aqueous product phase and prevented from back diffusing across the water-immiscible hydrophobic phase. The peptide product can be converted, chemically or enzymatically, to a charged species that cannot back diffuse across the water-immiscible phase into the aqueous reaction phase. The water-immiscible hydrophobic phase is an ion rejection membrane separating the aqueous reaction phase from the product phase creating oil/water interfaces with each of the aqueous phases.

Enzymatic membrane method for the synthesis and separation of peptides

There are disclosed two types of apparatus using membrane extractions of citrus juice bittering agents, both using extraction fluids. In one type, a membrane contactor facilitates contact between bittering agents present in a citrus juice feed and a hydrophobic bittering agents extraction fluid; a second membrane contactor may be used to extract bittering agents from the hydrophobic extraction fluid by use of a basic stripping fluid on the permeate side. In a second type, an immobilized liquid membrane containing hydrophobic extraction fluid supported within the pores of a microporous hydrophobic polymeric membrane is used to facilitate transport of bittering agents across the membrane.
