The disclosure relates to a fastener assembly comprising a nut and a washer that insures a minimum preload on the nut and bolt assembly by load indicator means which also maintain the nut and washer in a joint preassembly.

Preloaded locknut

A clip nut assembly for use with thin sheet material which includes a generally D-shaped resilient clip having first and second generally parallel clamping portions biased together by an arcuate biasing strip for clampingly engaging opposite faces of a sheet inserted therebetween. A threaded nut is assembled with the second clamping portion for movement therewith. The biasing strip interconnects one end of the first clamping portion with the opposite end of the second clamping portion. This configuration allows the second clamping portion to pivot about two parallel axes and into parallel alignment with the first clamping portion during insertion of the sheet between the clamping portions to automatically align the nut for receivingly engaging a threaded bolt inserted through the sheet. The biasing strip includes an elongated generally diamond shaped aperture which gives the strip a constant strain geometry. Such a geometry reduces the possibility of permanent yield in any one portion of the clip material during installation.

Clip nut

The disclosure relates to a fastener for use in highly stressed connections particularly in environments and with materials susceptible to stress corrosion or delamination. The fastener is installed in aligned openings in abutting components and exibits an interference fit therewith to maximize fatigue life of the connection. The interference fit is controlled in a unique manner.

Prestressed connection and fastener therefor

The disclosure relates to a fastener for use in highly stressed connections particularly in environments and with materials susceptible to stress corrosion or delamination. The fastener is installed in aligned openings in abutting components and exhibits an interference fit therewith to maximize fatigue life of the connection. The interference fit is controlled in a unique manner.

The threads at the entrance end of a nut are interrupted by a plurality of circumferentially spaced axially extending flutes to form relatively flexible load distributing threads. The flutes extend axially across a limited number of threads and extend radially into the threads a distance short of the root of the thread. After engagement with a complimentary bolt, and upon the occurrence of a load on the connection, the interrupted threads flex axially of the nut to cushion shock on the bolt threads and shift the zone of maximum stress transfer axially inwardly of the nut, thereby materially extending fatigue life of the connection.
