A remote control for operating a consumer electronic device. The remote control device may comprise a housing providing a mounting for a visual display and a keyboard including a plurality of keys; electrical circuitry in the housing including a microprocessor, at least one of an IR or RF receiver circuit coupled to the microprocessor, keyboard circuitry coupled between the microprocessor and the keyboard, a memory coupled to the microprocessor, and at least one of an IR or RF transmitter circuit coupled to the microprocessor. Program guide software is stored in the memory and executable by the microprocessor for causing to be displayed on the visual display, upon actuation of one or more of the keys, a program guide, advertising and/or other content contained in a data set received by the receiver.

The method and apparatus for enhancing digital image data is to be know as DarbeeVision&#x2122;, or DVn&#x2122; for short, and includes a method and an apparatus for enhancing images by embedding three-dimensional information into them. It works for movies, TV, videogames, print&#x2014;in fact, for any image&#x2014;whether from natural sources or generated by a computer. By combining the information contained in two source images, one for each eye, the DarbeeVision algorithm adds significant additional information content to any ordinary two-dimensional image. As a result DarbeeVision strikingly enhances images visually, imparting a strong sense of depth that is particularly pronounced when viewing moving images. The DarbeeVision method for enhancing images and the apparatus for implementing the method can be used during image recording and as a post-production procedure.

A universal remote control comprising a keyboard having a plurality of pushbuttons including a macro pushbutton and a library of codes and data for use in transmitting operating commands to a plurality of different home appliances of different manufacturers. Instructions within the remote control are used to match the universal remote control to a plurality of different home appliances of different manufacturers such that selected codes and data from the library are used to transmit operating commands to the matched home appliances in response to activation of selected pushbuttons of the keyboard. The instructions are also used to assign to the macro pushbutton a subset of the selected codes and data from the library whereafter activation of the macro pushbutton causes the universal remote control to use the subset of selected codes and data from the library to transmit operating commands to one or more of the matched home appliances.

The annunciator includes a visual display, wireless receiving circuitry for receiving, from a host device, data including selected information to be displayed, and software and/or hardware for maintaining the selected information displayed on the visual display of the annunciator. The circuitry of the annunciator can include wireless transmitting circuitry. Further the annunciator can have mounting structure, such as a magnet for mounting the annunciator to a wall surface, such as a refrigerator door.

The invention teaches remote control device for reassigning functions associated with one key to another key, wherein the functions are stored in memory. In one embodiment the remote control comprises a memory and a plurality of function instructions stored in the memory, including a first function instruction and a second function instruction. Reassignment programming is stored in memory and provides for connecting the first key such that it will execute the second function instruction instead of the first function.
