An ergonomically adjustable handle for attachment to the body of a tool has a handle member with first and second ends with an axis between. Provision for attaching the first end of the handle to the tool body allows rotation of the handle about the axis through the attachment point. A pivot point is located on the axis of the handle member near the first end and permits deflection of the second end of the handle with respect to the first end. In addition, an outer layer portion of the handle member near the second end may be rotated about its axis to provide a comfortable position for the ellipsoidal cross section of the handle. Finally, clamping provisions at the articulation point and the two rotation mechanisms secure the handle in the desired position.

A two-piece belt sander mounting block and guard assembly is provided which permits the mounting of the belt sanding attachment to a handheld power tool. The guard is separate from the mounting block and is attached thereto permitting variations in materials and guard design to effect economies in materials and manufacture while improving the respective functions of the mounting block and the guard by both material selection and design function.

A safety operating lever for hand tools or the like is disclosed. The lever is pivotally mounted at one end to the tool housing. Rotating of the lever about its pivot activates a valve causing the tool to operate. A safety lever lock is pivotally mounted to the safety lever at the end opposite the pivotal mounting to the tool housing. The safety lever lock is biased in a position which prevents the operating lever from rotating. To release the safety lever lock, it is necessary to physically rotate it about its pivot to a position approximately 90.degree. from the locking position. In the second position, the operating lever may be rotated to activate the tool. The unique mounting of the safety lever lock permits release of the lock and operation of the lever with one hand.
