A lighting driver is designed for driving an unknown lighting load and is based on a controlled DC driver, with a controlled output current. It is used in a first mode of operation to determine an operating current of the lighting load and in a second mode of operation to deliver a current to the lighting load in dependence the determined operating current, and optionally also in dependence on a dimming setting. In this way, the driver configures its output to the load based on an analysis of the current characteristics of the load, such as the maximum rated current.

A lighting device arranged to be controlled via a wireless controller, wherein said lighting device comprises a light emitting load arranged for emitting light, a driver arranged for receiving a supply voltage and for driving said light emitting load based on said received supply voltage, an auxiliary supply arranged for supplying an auxiliary Direct Current, DC, supply voltage, a wireless receiver, connected to and powered by said auxiliary supply, arranged for wirelessly receiving, from said wireless controller, a control signal, and for activating said driver based on said received control signal, wherein said wireless receiver is arranged to operate according to a pulsed listen mode, said pulsed listen mode comprising active phases in which said wireless receiver is able to receive said control signal and non-active phases in which said wireless receiver is not able to receive said control signal.

Lighting device arranged to be controlled via a wireless controller

An RF controlled lighting unit is provided, suitable for connection to at least one of a dimmer for adjusting a phase cut angle of input mains voltage in accordance with an adjustable dimming level or an electronic switch for selecting between on- and off-states. The lighting unit includes a solid state light source; a radio circuit for receiving a wireless control signal; a rectifier circuit for rectifying the input mains voltage received from the electronic switch or the dimmer; a first power converter for driving the solid state light source in response to the rectified input mains voltage and delivering power to the radio circuit; and a second power convertor for delivering power to the radio circuit when the rectified input mains voltage becomes inadequate for the first power converter due to the phase-cut angle of the rectified input mains voltage or the off-state of the electronic switch.

Radio frequency (RF) controlled lamp with dimmer compatibility

An appliance unit () is for electrical connection in series to a control unit () and to a power supply via the control unit (). The appliance unit () comprises an appliance module comprising at least one controllable light generating module () and/or at least one controllable auxiliary module () for performing functionality other than light generating, and a control module () for negotiating a power mode for the appliance unit () with the control unit (). The appliance module is controlled based on the power mode. A bypass module () is able to pass current through the appliance unit (), such that the bypass module () is configured to pass a current to enable the control unit () to be powered separately from any current passed by the at least one controllable light generating module () and the at least one controllable auxiliary module ().

Controlling power usage in appliances

The invention provides a lighting apparatus control switch which uses a detection circuit to monitor a parameter which is dependent on the output current flowing to a lighting load when the lighting apparatus control switch is turned off. The lighting apparatus control switch is configured as an on/off controller or a dimming controller in dependence on the monitored parameter. This lighting apparatus control switch can thus be configured as a dimmable switch, for example implementing leading or trailing edge dimming, or as an on/off switch. The lighting apparatus control switch provides a universal dimmer solution which may be future-proof to allow installation of newer generation lighting loads.

Lighting apparatus control switch and method

An RF controlled lighting unit is provided, suitable for connection to at least one of a dimmer for adjusting a phase cut angle of input mains voltage in accordance with an adjustable dimming level or an electronic switch for selecting between on-and off-states. The lighting unit includes a solid state light source; a radio circuit for receiving a wireless control signal; a rectifier circuit for rectifying the input mains voltage received from the electronic switch or the dimmer; a first power converter for driving the solid state light source in response to the rectified input mains voltage and delivering power to the radio circuit; and a second power convertor for delivering power to the radio circuit when the rectified input mains voltage becomes inadequate for the first power converter due to the phase-cut angle of the rectified input mains voltage or the off-state of the electronic switch.

A circuit arrangement (), a detection circuit () and an LED driver circuit () is disclosed for operating at least one lighting unit, such as an LED unit, with a phase-cut operating voltage. The circuit arrangement () comprising at least an input () for receiving a phase-cut operating voltage from said power supply and/or an output () for connection to said at least one lighting unit and a pulse injection circuit, configured to determine a phase-cut operation of said power supply and to draw a current pulse from said power supply within a delay time between 200-700 &#x3bc;s after said phase-cut operation to provide a stable operation of said LED unit with the phase-cut power supply. The detection circuit () comprises at least an input () for receiving a phase-cut operating voltage from said power supply and a lamp compatibility detector (), configured to determine the presence of a parallel lamp (), connected in parallel with the detection circuit () to said phase-cut power supply during operation and to provide a compatibility signal to a LED driver circuit () corresponding to the determination of said parallel lamp (), so that said driver circuit () is set between a normal operating mode and a compatibility mode in dependence of the presence of said parallel lamp ().

Circuit arrangement

Apparatuses for driving loads via converters comprise first circuits for interfacing phase-cut dimmers and the converters. Firing angles of the phase-cut dimmers correspond with first moments in time during periods of voltage signals presented to the phase-cut dimmers. The converters draw first current signals from second until third moments in time during the periods. Second circuits control the converters to draw second current signals from fourth until fifth moments in time during the periods, to improve an energy efficiency.
