A system and method for providing a medical simulation device that utilizes open software platforms and provides functionality in both software and hardware modules is disclosed. The medical simulation system facilitates plug and play operation with installed hardware and software modules that are automatically recognized by the system for compatibility and the system configures itself according to identification information of the hardware module.

System and method for improved medical simulator

An automatic identification system for communicating identifying information by coupling signals through the human body is provided. The system includes a battery powered identification device that transmits an identifying signal via a modulated carrier. The identification device is coupled to the body of the user via a coupling plate. The signal from the identification device is received by a reading device that is also coupled to the body of the user via a coupling plate. The reading device may display and/or enunciates the identifying information to the user. The coupling technique, carrier frequency, and construction of the devices are such that the identification information is not inadvertently radiated or coupled to unintentional users or receivers.

Automatic touch identification system and method thereof

A mobility assistance device that employs a movable handle assembly and an extension support, both of which are movable between retracted and extended positions. The handle assembly is positioned when extended above a seating surface and provides leverage for a user to use his/her hands to assist in rising. The extendable support extends from a guide element along the floor beyond the center of gravity of the device and user to prevent tipping and to provide stability. When the extendable support and handle are disposed in the retracted position, the device is used like a typical cane, walker or rollator.

Mobility assistance devices

A system is provided for associating an object with a locale or a second object based on interaction time. The system includes and object identifier linked with an object for providing data identifying the object and a location determining module for determining the location of the object. The location determining modules includes an object location module for determining the location of the object based at least in part on the data and an object association module for associating the object with a second object or locale. The object association module is configured to determine whether the object is in proximity to the second object or the locale for a time period greater than or equal to a threshold time and create an associating between the object and the second object or the locale.

Exemplary embodiments provide systems and methods for detecting activities and determining information about the activities. Exemplary embodiments use one or more items of context information on one or more objects to detect an activity. Examples of context information include, but are not limited to, identities of objects, roles or activities associated with objects, locations/locales of objects, historical locations/locales of objects, associations between objects, duration of associations between objects, etc. Upon detecting an activity, exemplary embodiments also determine information about the detected activity.

Systems and methods for detecting activities

Transmitters or object identifiers are discloses that are able to radiate consistent power regardless of the object where the transmitters or object identifiers are placed. The transmitter or object identifier may include a vertical loop antenna. The loop plane of the vertical loop antenna is substantially perpendicular to the surface of the object where the transmitter or object identifier is placed. The transmitter or object identifier may include a folded vertical loop antenna where the loop plane of the vertical loop antenna is extended and folded to have additional loop planes. The antennas of the present invention enable the transmitter or object identifier to radiate consistent power regardless of the object where the transmitter or object identifier is placed and regardless of the orientation of the transmitter or object identifier.

Systems and methods for allowing the location of transmitter to be determined (approximated) without requiring its distance from a receiver to be precisely known. Methods for determining a location of a transmitter without precise distance calculations. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed having the steps of: for a receiver, estimate a first zone a first transmitter is in; for remaining receivers that can receive a given transmitter, each estimate a second zone a first transmitter is in; and determine if there are overlaps in any of the zones. In another embodiment a potential target area is defined wherein the location of a transmitter can estimated.
