An electronic system has electronic equipment, and an electronic cabinet which houses the electronic equipment. The electronic cabinet includes a support structure which is configured to carry the electronic equipment, and a door panel which is configured to pivotally mount to the support structure. The door panel and the support structure define an opening through which a set of cables is configured to pass. The electronic cabinet further includes an assembly which is configured to manage the cables. The assembly includes a mounting bracket which is configured to mount to one of the support structure and the door panel at a location which is adjacent the opening, a section of flexible material which defines a set of grooves to hold the set of cables, and a fastener interconnected between the mounting bracket and the section of flexible material to fasten the section of flexible material to the mounting bracket.

Methods and apparatus for managing a set of cables

An apparatus attenuates noise from a cabinet that houses computer equipment. The apparatus includes a frame, a set of positioning members to position the frame relative to the cabinet, and lateral noise absorption members that are supported by the frame. The lateral noise absorption members define surfaces that form sides of airflow channels through the apparatus. The surfaces are substantially non-parallel to a direction of an airflow pathway through the cabinet when the set of positioning members positions the frame relative to the cabinet. The lateral noise absorption members absorb sound energy emanating from the cabinet (e.g., from a fan assembly within the cabinet). The lateral noise absorption members transform some of the sound energy into low level heat which can be dissipated into the air stream. Additionally, some of the sound energy is reflected back into the cabinet toward the source.

Methods and apparatus for attenuating noise from a cabinet that houses computer equipment

A fastening device attaches a printed circuit board, such as a backplane, within a support framework of an electrical cabinet. The fastening device includes two adjacent members of the support framework. A threaded stud is attached to one of the members and extends toward the adjacent member. A captive fastener is attached to the other adjacent member. The captive fastener has a thread that cooperates with the thread of the stud. The fastener is aligned with the stud, the cooperative thread of the fastener is capable of engaging the thread of the stud. The fastening device secures the printed circuit board between the adjacent members of the support framework.

A housing receives a printed circuit board and a plurality of daughter boards. The housing has two opposing sidewalls, a floor, and a ceiling. The sidewalls extend from opposing sides of the floor to opposing sides of the ceiling. The opposing sidewalls, the floor and the ceiling defining an opening for receiving a daughter board within slots in the floor and the ceiling. A movable ceiling member attaches to the sidewalls. The ceiling, the movable ceiling member and the sidewalls define an opening for receiving a printed circuit board, such as a backplane, when the movable ceiling member is in an unsecured position. The movable ceiling member is aligned with the ceiling when the movable ceiling member is in a secured position. The movable ceiling member includes a fastener that secures the printed circuit board. The movable ceiling member accommodates printed circuit boards having various thicknesses.

A stiffener supports a printed circuit board during insertion and removal within a slot of a card cage having one or more electrical connectors. The stiffener has a rigid elongated member that defines an elongated channel. The elongated member is adapted to engage an edge of the printed circuit board along the channel. The member has an engagement portion for receiving an applied force, a driver portion for engaging an electrical connecting mechanism, and a translator portion for translating the force from the engagement portion to the driver portion.

A support bracket, which can be used in a method of reinforcing a printed circuit board, secures the printed circuit board, such as a backplane having a plurality of electrical connectors that engage corresponding electrical connectors of daughter boards. The support bracket includes a cross member attachable to the printed circuit board in a direction substantially transverse to a direction of motion of the daughter boards. The support bracket also includes first and second end support members attached transversely to the cross member at corresponding ends of the cross member. The end support members are fixable to a support surface and are adapted to secure the support bracket in the direction of motion of the daughter boards.

Cabinet for electronic components

A customer removable storage system peripheral device cover is formed from two symmetrical right and left covers, each having a number of air channel openings spaced to meet finger insertion safety requirements. The covers are fastened together around grooved symmetrical guides hot staked on either side of a drive carrier. Inside the covers, a floating disk adaptor board is included at the rear to electrically connect the drive to the storage system. A ribbon wire cable is placed along the bottom of the interior of the device cover, to connect to an LED panel on the front of the device cover. An ejector pivotally attached to the device cover has locking tabs that grip a shelf of the chassis at the position where the drive is to be inserted, and propel the covered drive inward along rails in the chassis that fit into grooved symmetrical guides to snap the covered drive into its position and connect it to a backplane. Guide pins in the backplane match openings in the floating board disk adaptor's gang connector at the rear of the device cover to insure proper insertion. When a latch in the ejector is released, the front planar surface moves down to engage with a shelf of the chassis within which the covered drive is mounted. A downward pivot of the ejector propels the covered drive out of its position for removal. A simple manufacturing process is used to assemble a drive within the covers of the invention.

Electronics cabinet

A strain relief bulkhead that provides EMI shielding for data cables being inserted into cabinets, including a conductive vise, slidably mounted on a stationary guide track that is permanently attached to a bracket made of conductive material to which a conductive cover panel is removably fastened. In a preferred embodiment the vise is moved along the guide track by a threaded screw which extends through threaded openings in the guide track. A C-ring holds the end of the screw to the vise. The bracket containing the vise and guide track is fastened to the cabinet which houses the printed circuit boards by screws or other means. The vise is located on the guide track and the guide track is attached to the bracket in such a way as to provide cable openings through which cables can be inserted. As cables are inserted they are held in place, after fastening the cover panel to the bracket, by sliding the vise to hold the cables against the walls of the bracket, the vise, and the cover panel, thus grounding the cables for EMI shielding and providing strain relief.

An adjustable cable supporting hinge assembly pivotably couples a support member, such as a tray for holding an electronic component, to a support structure, such as a housing or cabinet for an electronic system. The adjustable cable supporting hinge assembly includes a hollow cylindrical hub member which receives the cables coupling the electronic component to the electronic system. The cables are inserted into a cable-receiving region in the hollow cylindrical hub member during assembly and are protected against damage when the pivotable support member is moved. The adjustable wire supporting hinge assembly further includes an adjustable clamp member which rotatably supports and clamps the hollow cylindrical hub member. The adjustable clamp member is adjustable to provide a variable resistance against rotation for the pivotable support member to accommodate electronic components of different sizes and different weights.

A hot-pluggable cabinet cooling fan assembly is mounted to an exterior face of a cabinet in such a way as to enable removal or service of the fan assembly without either disrupting the operation of the cabinet being cooled or opening of cabinet doors. First and second plugs are provided on confronting faces of the fan assembly and the exterior face of the cabinet. Mechanical elements are carried by the confronting faces that prealign the plugs, while other mechanical elements are carried by the plugs that finely align the electrical connection elements of the plugs. A handle is provided that allows single-handed fan assembly mounting and dismounting.

Self-aligning hot-pluggable fan assembly

A power interconnect system for electronic assemblies, for providing electrical connections between a power supply and a remote electrical conductor element, such as a power bus bar. An electrically insulating block is connected to a bus bar, and holds captive a power coupling connector element for engaging and connecting the bus bar to a power supply. The power coupling connector element includes a conductive end and an insulative end to prevent the supply from shorting out or shocking a maintenance person in contact with the insulative end even when the system is powered up. The conductive end has a larger diameter than the insulative end and the entire power coupling connector element is held captive within the block of insulating material when mounted to a power bus bar, to prevent the power coupling connector element from becoming loose within an electronic assembly.
