Technology for communicating by embedding messages in DNS requests/responses is disclosed. In many cases it is desirable for a device to communicate without that device having to supply network credentials. In some network environments, credentials are not required to send or receive DNS messages. The question section of a DNS request message may include a message for a destination DNS server and a query domain which, when using standard DNS routing, will result in the DNS request being directed to the intended destination DNS server. The message may be encoded in such a way that an algorithm run by the destination DNS server is able to parse the message from the DNS request.

Systems and methods for managing domain name registrations in accordance with rules and regulations of a domain name verification system are disclosed. The disclosed technology enables a domain name verification system to regulate the registration of domain names in accordance with its own domain name registration policies. This disclosed system uses a 'whitelist' domain name registry to register 'whitelist domain names' once pre-approval to register a corresponding target domain name has been granted. In this manner, the whitelist domain name registry system acts as a repository for pre-approved domain name registrations and enables pre-qualified registrants (including potential or prospective registrants) to then register a target domain name.

A system and method are directed towards identifying advertisement keywords within a variety of content types, identifying similarity rankings of advertisements based on the keywords, and to the guiding of keyword purchases. In one embodiment, a search is performed based in part on defined selection criteria, and/or scheduling rules. Content that may include advertisements is processed to identify advertisement keywords. A similarity ranking of different advertisements based on keywords therein may be determined. The similarity rankings may be used, with keyword pricing data, to identify instances of keyword arbitrage, guide purchase of keywords, and to control traffic flow to and from advertisements to obtain a benefit from price differentials between what one keyword seller charges for a keyword and what a click buyer will, pay for traffic directed to advertisements with the same or related keyword. In one embodiment, a three-dimensional representation is provided indicating relationships between advertisements across websites.

Methods and systems to facilitate keyword bid arbitrage with multiple advertisement placement providers

A method and system for resolving domain names of web sites with dynamic addresses. The resolution system, which may execute as part of a domain name server, receives a domain name associated with a web site. The resolution system then identifies a dynamic address name associated with the received domain name. The resolution system then sends to a dynamic address system the identified dynamic address name. The dynamic address system then returns an address associated with the dynamic address name to the resolution system. Upon receiving the identified address, the resolution system then returns the identified address as the address of the received domain name. Methods and systems for mapping an unregistered domain name to an address and for placing telephone calls via a network are also provided.

A system and method for collecting internet publisher data is disclosed in which metadata pertaining to the internet publisher is acquired in the context of a trusted relationship with the internet publisher to increase reliability of metadata utilized in the presentation of internet search engine results. In a preferred embodiment, metadata collected by an internet domain registrar incident to registration of an internet domain name is included among metadata acquired in the trusted relationship.

The disclosed method and apparatus makes possible the registration of domain names in one or more registration state-types, each registration state-type being associated with a set of functional rules or parameters. Certain of the registration state-types are allowed to have priority over other of the registration state-types, meaning that a domain name registered in a low priority registration state-type may be superseded or overwritten by an intervening registration to the same or a different registrant who requests a higher priority registration. Interplay of the registration state-types and parameters provides for a broad range of registration services and flexibility in the means by which consideration is obtained in exchange for registration services.
