A method for waking up an implantable medical device from a dormant state, an implantable medical device, and a system that includes such an implantable medical device and an external device. The implantable medical device is woken up from a dormant state by sending a modulated wakeup signal via a wireless link from an external device. The modulated wakeup signal is demodulated by way of a demodulator circuitry of the implantable medical device so as to produce a demodulated wakeup signal. The demodulator circuitry is permanently ready for operation. An awake state of the implantable medical device is then activated in response to the demodulated wakeup signal.

The invention relates to methods by which radio signals can be transmitted to, and received by, a radio receiver such that the receiver consumes very little power from a battery or energy source. The invention also relates to methods by which radio signals, modulated with data information, can be produced by a transmitter that consumes very little power. The invention is applicable not only to medical implants, but any application requiring a radio receiver to operate with very low power consumption.

The invention relates to methods by which radio signals can be transmitted to, and received by, a radio receiver such that the receiver consumes very little power from a battery or energy source. The invention relates to a patient's device having an at least unidirectional, wireless interface for receiving a data signal. The wireless interface is adapted to receive medical or operational data from a medical device, in particular an implantable medical device like a cardiac pacemaker or a cardioverter/defibrillator, a data communication interface for accessing a wide area network or a public telecommunication network or both. The device comprises an automatic routing/dialling module connected to the data communication interface, adapted to establish an automatic access to a modem connected to the data communication interface by automatically selecting one of a plurality of possible connection parameters. The connection parameters are selected from at least one of an individual modem, if more than one modem is connected to the data communication interface, and a prefix number for a remote access to a remote device over a public network automatically selecting a dial-up telephone number.

Measuring wireless network performance from a remote site uses a mobile handset that may include an appropriate world wide network browser. A user connects the mobile handset to the remote site via the wireless network which is coupled to the world wide network. Once the connection is made, application software at the measurement site sends commands to the mobile handset and in response the mobile handset sends measurement data to the application software. The application software processes the data to provide information about the wireless network performance including analyses for predictive and diagnostic purposes, since measurement data from many handsets, many locations and many base stations at many times may be collected at one central location.
