An illuminated sign () includes a flexible electrical power cord () including first and second parallel conductors () surroundingly contained within an insulating sheath defining a constant separation distance between the parallel conductors (). A plurality of light emitting diode (LED) devices () are affixed to the cord (). Each LED device () includes an LED () having a positive lead () electrically communicating with the first parallel conductor () and a negative lead () electrically communicating with the second parallel conductor (). A stencil () defines a selected shape, and the electrical cord () is arranged on the stencil (). Power conditioning electronics () disposed away from the stencil () electrically communicate with the first and second parallel conductors () of the electrical power cord (). The power conditioning electronics () power the LED devices () via the parallel conductors ().

A string light engine includes a plurality of LEDs, a plurality of IDC connectors, and an insulated flexible conductor. Each IDC connector is in electrical communication with at least one of the plurality of LEDs and is operatively mechanically connected to at least one of the plurality of LEDs. The IDC connectors attach to the conductor.

A connector electrically connects corresponding conductors of at least first and second cables. The connector comprises a connecting portion into which the conductors of the first and second cables are inserted opposing one another to electrically connect corresponding conductors of each cable. A positive terminal and a negative terminal terminate and electrically connect corresponding conductors of each cable.

A lighting apparatus for creating a substantially homogenous lit appearance along the length of the apparatus is provided. The lighting apparatus includes an elongated envelope, an LED mounted in the elongated envelope, and a reflector. The elongated envelope includes a translucent portion. The reflector is positioned in relation to the LED such that the light emitted from the LED is directed toward the translucent portion of the elongated envelope and dispersed along the length of the lighting apparatus.

An LED light engine includes an electrical conductor, a flexible, electrically insulating covering surrounding the electrical conductor, and an LED. The electrical conductor includes a plurality of conductive elements. A connector is mechanically secured to the flexible insulating covering and electrically contacts the electrical conductor. In one embodiment, the LED electrically contacts the electrical conductor and is mechanically secured to the insulating covering. Alternatively, the LED electrically contacts the electrical conductor and is mechanically secured to the insulating covering via the connector.
