An alignment tool () for a joint is provided comprising a reference memberthat defines a reference plane R and a distraction member (). The distraction member () comprises first and second distraction arms (), each of which is independently moveable with respect to the reference member () along a movement axis M. The movement axes M, M of the first and second distraction arms () are substantially parallel. A kit of parts is also provided comprising an alignment tool (), a drill guide () and a cutting guide ().

Alignment tool

A first prosthetic ankle component () comprising: a first bearing surface () configured to engage a second bearing surface () of a second prosthetic ankle component (); and a protrusion () or slot () on the first bearing surface, the protrusion or slot being configured to engage a respective slot () or protrusion () in the second bearing surface of the second prosthetic ankle component, wherein the protrusion or slot is further configured such that the interaction with the respective slot or protrusion permits the first and second prosthetic ankle components to slide with respect to one another in an interface plane defined by the interface between the first and second bearing surfaces, and wherein the protrusion or slot is further configured to restrict the first and second prosthetic ankle components moving away from one another in a direction with a component perpendicular to the interface plane.

Prosthetic ankle components

A guiding tool () is disclosed comprising a tool body () that defines a reference plane of the tool (); an alignment member () that carries a guide surface (); and an adjustment means acting between the tool body () and the alignment member () to direct rotational adjustment of the alignment member () with respect to the tool body ().

Guiding tool

The application relates to a prosthetic canine elbow joint () comprising a radioulnar component () mountable in a trochlear notch of the ulna () and an articular fovea of a radius which is engagable with a humeral component () mountable on a trochlear bone portion of a humerus () to permit relative movement between the humerus () and ulna (). The humeral component () is thus mounted e.g. hooked stably on a piece of bone extending between the medial and lateral condyles thereby making use of the intrinsic strength of bone. The humeral component () may include an opening () alignable with the supratrochlear foramen to receive the anconeal process () of the ulna () during articulation of the joint, thereby promoting freedom of movement.
