A system is disclosed as having first and second tubular tool string components. Each component has a first end and a second end, and the first end of the first component is coupled to the second end of the second component through mating threads. First and second inductive coils are disposed within the first end of the first component and the second end of the second component, respectively. Each inductive coil has at least one turn of an electrical conductor, and the first coil is in magnetic communication with the second coil. The first coil has more turns than the second coil.

Wired tool string component

An apparatus has a downhole tubular body having a bore with a central axis. An electrical conductor assembly is disposed within the bore of the tubular component, the assembly having a first end, a second end, a first conductor, and a second conductor electrically isolated from the first conductor. At least one end of the assembly has a polished mating surface which has an electrically conductive portion surrounded by a dielectric material. The electrically conductive portion is in electrical communication with the first conductor. The first and second ends of the electrical conductor assembly are substantially aligned to the central axis of the bore by stabilizing elements within the bore.

Downhole data and/or power transmission system

An apparatus is disclosed as having a downhole string component having first and second ends. The first end has first and second signal couplers, and the second end has third and fourth signal couplers. An electrical conductor is in electrical communication with the first, second, third, and fourth signal couplers. The first and third signal couplers have a first band pass filter with a first resonant frequency and the second and fourth signal couplers have a second band pass filter with a second resonant frequency.

A data transmission apparatus having first and second electrical conductors is disclosed. The first and second electrical conductors are disposed within recesses of a first and second complementary surfaces that are magnetically conducting and electrically insulating. The first and second surfaces are in close proximity to each other. The first surface is translatable along the length of the second surface. The first and second electrical conductors are in electromagnetic communication and provide for the transmission of data or power from the first electrical conductor to the second electrical conductor as the first surface overlaps the second surface. The data transmission apparatus may be located in one or more downhole tools.
