A remote support system provides support to an autonomous drive system of a vehicle in response to a support request. The remote support may include guiding the autonomous drive system of the vehicle through a hazardous environment. A call to the remote support system may be initiated, for example, via a user interface control button or by scanning a bar code, QR code, or RFID associated with the vehicle on a device that sends the code with vehicle information to the remote support system. The remote support system may determine an urgency of the request to assess whether immediate support should be initiated or whether to first initiate a communication connection with a passenger. Furthermore, an emergency brake system of the vehicle may be triggered by the remote support system or in response to the vehicle losing a connection to the remote support system during a support request.

Safety of autonomous vehicles by remote support request

A virtual support element may be activated when it is beneficial to assist an autonomous drive system of the vehicle through a physical environment having one or more hazards. A remote support system generates the virtual support element (e.g., a virtual vehicle) that can be controlled through a simulated environment that corresponds to a physical environment of a vehicle. The autonomous drive system of the vehicle follows a path through the physical environment corresponding to the path of the virtual support element through the simulated environment corresponding to the physical environment.

Apparatuses and methods are provided for generating a plurality of redundancy versions using various rate matching algorithms. In some embodiments, a rate matcher is provided that allocates systematic and parity bits to the redundancy versions in a manner that allows all of these bits to be transmitted in at least one redundancy version. In some embodiments, the rate matcher uses a first puncturing algorithm to generate both a first redundancy version and a third redundancy version, but allocates a different proportion of the systematic bits to these redundancy versions. In these embodiments, the second redundancy version may include only bits that were not transmitted in the first redundancy version.

Rate matching for a wireless communications system

A method for communication includes receiving modulated signals, which convey encoded speech. A measure of information entropy associated with the received signals is estimated. A speech encoding scheme is selected responsively to the estimated measure of the information entropy. A request to encode subsequent speech using the selected speech encoding scheme is sent to a transmitter.

Systems and methods are provided for transmitting and receiving an uplink state flag (USF) in a cellular network. A base station may transmit the USF to plurality of mobile stations that share the same frequency channel, and each mobile station can use the USF to determine whether that mobile station can transmit data in an upcoming uplink time period. The base station can encode the USF bits into a plurality of encoded USF symbols, where the encoded USF symbols may be selected from corner signal points in a QAM signal constellation set or from signal points adjacent to the corners of a QAM signal constellation set. The base station can interleave the encoded USF symbols and modulate the encoded USF symbols for transmission using the signal constellation set. A mobile station that can communication with the base station can include a corresponding receiver, de-interleaver, and decoder.

A method for waking up user equipment in a cellular network includes waking up a receiver module at a predetermined wakeup time to receive a transmitted paging signal, when awake, determining prevailing conditions for receiving paging signals, and skipping at least a next possible wakeup time if at least one of the prevailing conditions exceeds an associated threshold level. A user equipment for use on a mobile communications network includes a reception quality determiner to determine at least one of a reception quality of a received signal and a radio frequency (RF) level of the signal, a paging indication processor to process received paging signals, a system message handler to determine a level of activity for a cellular network, and a conditional wakeup mechanism that is configured to set a next wakeup for the user equipment time responsively to an input from at least one of the reception quality determiner and the system message handler.

Sleep estimator for cellular telephones

A method includes transmitting downlink signals to at least first and second mobile communication terminals over respective first and second traffic channels. Reception quality measures are obtained from the first and second mobile communication terminals for at least one of the traffic channels. Based on the reception quality measures, an expected downlink performance is estimated for simultaneous transmission to the first and second mobile communication terminals on a candidate shared traffic channel.

Grouping of users onto traffic channels in multiple-users-per-channel transmission schemes

Apparatus and methods for reducing the amount of time a mobile wireless device needs to be in a wake mode in order to determine whether a particular paging message is or is not directed to the mobile wireless device. The method includes: receiving, by a mobile device of a wireless network, a first paging message; processing, by the mobile device, a portion of the first paging message including comparing the processed portion of the first paging message with a processed portion of a second paging message previously received by the mobile device; and determining, by the mobile device, whether to process other portions of the first paging message based at least in part on the comparison.

Saving power in wireless communication devices

A method for communication includes defining a signal constellation including multiple constellation points in a signal space, such that each constellation point corresponds to a signal representing a respective combination of values of at least three bits, wherein three or more subsets of the bits in each of the constellation points are respectively allocated to three or more data streams. A sequence of signals is received, each signal selected from the signal constellation. The received sequence of the signals is demodulated, and one of the three or more data streams is reconstructed based on the demodulated signals.

Communication with multiple users over a single time slot using high-order modulation

A transceiver includes a receiver that receives and demodulates a first encoded block of data. The first encoded block of data includes a first redundancy version that corresponds to a first payload portion and a first header portion. The first encoded block of data is received from a communication device that is remote from the transceiver and that is in a cellular telecommunication network. A transmitter transmits an acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) signal that includes a dedicated decoding status indicator for the header portion.
