A supercritical steam generator includes a downdraft furnace enclosure, a hopper tunnel, and a convection pass enclosure, with the hopper tunnel joining the downdraft furnace enclosure and convection pass enclosure together. Flue gas passes down through the downdraft furnace enclosure through the hopper tunnel and up through the convection pass enclosure. This structure permits the outlet steam terminals, which provide access to the resultant supercritical steam and/or reheat steam, to be located at a base of the steam generator rather than at the top of the steam generator as with conventional boilers. This reduces the length of the steam leads from the steam generator to a steam turbine that produces electricity using the supercritical steam.

Advanced ultra supercritical steam generator

A combined, integral steam generator coal gasifier includes a vertically elongated, all welded, gas tight enclosure with a burner zone having a double pitch sloping furnace floor and a slag tap extending therethrough. Successive zones located above the burner zone are provided with appropriate tube materials for conveying synthesis gas produced by the coal gasification process. A multi-pass convection pass zone having upflow and downflow passes is located at an upper portion of the enclosure and contains a plurality of superheater (primary and secondary) as well as economizer heating surfaces which extract heat from the synthesis gas to produce steam. An ash remover is connected to the outlet of the convection pass zone to remove ash from the synthesis gas exiting from the convection pass zone. The slag tap located at the bottom of the burner zone communicates with a slag tank or a drag chain deasher for receiving and removing slag from the burner zone.

Steam generator for gasifying coal

A fluidized bed boiler bottom with an ash cooling and removal system has a water-cooled tube panel floor with fluidization bubble caps above a windbox, and a structural support and at least one hopper, each of the at least one hoppers with a bed ash cooler region and drain control system positioned beneath the tube panel floor. The hoppers are formed from cooled enclosure tubes and have sloped upper walls and lower troughs having vertical walls. Standpipes are provided through the tube panel floor down into the troughs at the bottoms of the hoppers. The standpipes may be arranged in an H-pattern in the tube panel floor and subsequently channel several flowpaths together into fewer standpipes closer to the troughs. Solids flow through the standpipes is controlled by operation of fluidizing nozzles located underneath the standpipes. Pulsing the flow of air through the fluidizing nozzles prevents or allows solids to flow through the standpipe from the bed. Some cooling air may flow up through the standpipes, cooling solids in the standpipes.

A reheat steam temperature control system that utilizes the separate components of a reheater and a reheat heat exchanger to generate hot reheat steam. The reheater uses the fluidized bed as its source of heat while the reheat heat exchanger uses main steam as its source of heat. A bypass control valve is operated to divert the required amount of main steam to the reheat heat exchanger depending on operating conditions. Should the temperature of the hot reheat steam be too low, additional main steam is delivered to the reheat heat exchanger. Conversely, should the temperature of the hot reheat steam be too high, the amount of main steam delivered to the reheat heat exchanger is reduced. Attemperators are used within both the reheating circuit and the main steam circuit to temper the fluctuations of their respective steam.

Fluid bed combustion reheat steam temperature control

An actuator device for mechanisms located within a pressurized environment including a double acting piston and cylinder combination operating in the same environment. The motive power for the piston is provided by pressurized gas from the pressurized environment or from a substitute source, whereby complex and elaborate sealing systems are eliminated.

Activator device for movable components

A system for protecting components including the heat exchangers of a fluidized bed boiler against thermal mismatch. The system includes an injection tank containing an emergency supply of heated and pressurized feedwater. A heater is associated with the injection tank to maintain the temperature of the feedwater in the tank at or about the same temperature as that of the feedwater in the heat exchangers. A pressurized gas is supplied to the injection tank to cause feedwater to flow from the injection tank to the heat exchangers during thermal mismatch.

Standby cooling system for a fluidized bed boiler

A depressurization apparatus which utilizes a plurality of rupturable discs connected to lines that communicate with a conduit conveying hot gas from a pressurized fluid bed reactor to a turbine. Whenever depressurization is required due to excessive pressure in the conduit or for another reason, one or more rupturable discs are electrically fired to vent the gas to atmosphere. A separate isolation valve is provided for each disc, and can be closed to facilitate the replacement of a ruptured disc without having to shutdown the reactor.

Pressurized fluid bed hot gas depressurization system

An in-bed tubular heat exhanger support structure comprising a plurality of fluid-cooled support tubes which extend over and are supported by the wall headers of a fluidized bed boiler. Each support tube has at least one upright portion which extends into the fluidized bed region of the boiler, and wherein at least one of the heat exchanger tubes is clamped or otherwise fixed to the upright portion of the support tube.
