A classifying machine for sizing articles, separating the articles so sized and delivering those within given size limits to particular bins having a pair of juxtapositioned rollers raised at their feed ends so that they move in part under the force of gravity to their discharge ends. The rollers are each individually adjustable at different ends to taper outwardly of each other from the feed end to the discharge end so that the smallest selected sizes of the articles drop between the rollers in a collection bin at the feed end and the articles of the largest size are discharged at or near the discharge end of the rollers.

A two stage centerless grinder for shaping work pieces wherein each stage comprises a grinding wheel and associated regulating wheel with work supporting means therebetween and a venturi means for feeding the work pieces to the first stage for a first initial grinding operation and to a second stage for a second or finishing operation with means for adjusting the position of the grinding wheels relative to its associated regulating wheel.

A lapping machine for abrading the surfaces of at least one workpiece employing a pair of lap plates in axial alignment with each other and having a carrier mounted therebetween for mounting workpieces therein wherein one of the lap plates is controllable for free wheeling and/or locked operation relative to the other lap plate and is rotatable relative to the other lap plate through 180 degrees for exposing the carrier and the work surfaces of each lap plate.

An improved motor vehicle engine compartment [10] for protecting the engine from cold by retaining engine heat includes conventional side walls [11,12], hood [13] and cowling [14]. A front wall [16] adjacent the radiator [R] includes a series of movable louvers [22] for covering and uncovering a series of opeings [21]. A lower wall [17] includes a series of movable louvers [24] for covering and uncovering a series of openings [23]. Together these walls and the side walls, hood and cowling form a substantially hermetically sealed enclosure when the louvers are in the covering positions. Actuators [28,29], acting through connecting rods [26,27], move the louvers [22,24] to the covering and uncovering positions. A control circuit [40], responsive to low ambient temperature, high engine temperature and operation of the engine, controls the operation of the actuators [28,29].

A connector system for distributing power to daughter cards in a card cage includes a power connector for each card mounted on framework of the card cage. Each power connector has individual terminals connected to power conductors connected to a power supply and at least one terminal connected to a return path conductor. Each power connector includes a channel along which an active edge of the card is inserted and moved longitudinally from an open end, opposed from another channel aligned therewith, until the daughter card is fully inserted into the card cage, and signal transmission connectors along the back card edge mate with connectors of the backplane of the card cage. The daughter card is then locked in position; its power connector is then actuated, camming contact sections of its terminals into electrical engagement with contacts along the active edge of the daughter card. Each daughter card is thus powered and correspondingly disconnectable independently of the other daughter cards. An interference arrangement prevents the power connector from being actuated unless the card is locked in position, and prevents unlocking and removal of the card unless the power connector is deactuated. A dielectric rail along the card's active edge is shaped to fit the channel of the power connector and protect the active edge and contact sections therealong exposed in recesses of the rail. A daughter card may have two active edges, each with a rail insertable into channels of a pair of opposed power connectors.

Power connector system for daughter cards in card cages

A power distribution system utilizes flat power cable in combination with a plurality of adapter members for the distribution of power within electronics systems. The adapter members allow flat power cable to be interconnected to conventional crimpable contacts and thereafter routed through conventional electrical connectors. The adapters also allow interconnection between flat cable and power busses or between flat cables and printed circuit boards. The adapters can also allow the interconnection of tabs and receptacles to flat power cable. The adapters are crimpable to the flat cable by means of hand tools which provides for a versatile means of distributing power.

Flat cable power distribution system

A power connector for distributing power current to an active edge of a daughter card which is insertable into a channel of the power connector, includes a plurality of terminals electrically connected to a power source. A rectilinear cam shaft within a longitudinal aperture of the connector housing is movable linearly upon actuation to deflect cantilever beam portions of the terminals into the card-receiving channel to engage contact sections of the daughter card along the active edge and power the card. The cantilever beams extend at an angle through transverse angled profiled apertures of the cam shaft to free ends along the channel bottom and are cammed into the channel and against card contacts by being engaged by first camming wall surfaces of the profiled aperture upon actuation. The beams may also be similarly cammed out of card contact engagement by opposed second camming wall surfaces of the profiled aperture engaging the beams when the cam shaft is moved linearly in the opposite direction to disengage from the card's contact sections and clear the channel allowing withdrawal of the card from the channel. An actuator which is rotatable at a front end of the connector has a helical groove segment into which is held a boss of a follower contained in the front of the cam shaft, translating the actuator's rotary motion into linear motion.

Methods and apparatus for stripping insulation from low profile high performance cable are disclosed. The apparatus includes hand-held tools with an aperture at each end for sequentially slicing or cutting predetermined layers of insulation from the cable at predetermined lengths from the end of the cable being stripped. The methods are for performing these steps whether performed by the tools, by a hand-held knife or by automated machinery.
