A method for determining a location of a device in a wireless network includes transmitting a digital transmit signal from a digital transmitter including a first antenna. The first antenna is configured to transmit the digital transmit signal to two or more receivers. A first receiver including a second antenna and a second receiver including a third antenna receive the digital transmit signal from the digital transmitter. The digital transmit signal arrives at the receivers at two different time instances as a first digital signal and a second digital signal. A comparison of the digital signals is performed at the processor. A time difference of arrival of the digital signals is determined at the processor based on the performed comparison. The direction of travel of the digital transmit signal is estimated at the processor. A bearing to the digital transmitter is determined.

Determining wireless network device location

Certain embodiments of the methods and systems disclosed herein determine a location of a tracked object with respect to a coordinate system of a sensor array by using analog signals from sensors having overlapping nonlinear responses. Hyperacuity and real time tracking are achieved by either digital or analog processing of the sensor signals. Multiple sensor arrays can be configured in a plane, on a hemisphere or other complex surface to act as a single sensor or to provide a wide field of view and zooming capabilities of the sensor array. Other embodiments use the processing methods to adjust to contrast reversals between an image and the background.

Hyperacuity system and methods for real time and analog detection and kinematic state tracking

A hand held test instrument for testing a DSL line is provided. The test instrument includes an interface for unintrusive connection with the DSL under test. The interface is configured to capture Radio Frequency (RF) signals corresponding to a portion of a data stream transmitted by a communication device over the DSL under test. The hand held test instrument further includes a controller module configured to identify unique characteristics of the communication device based on the captured RF signals.

Digital subscriber line identification method

A phone test set provides modem capability in a hand held device, enabling bi-directional data communications. Demodulation is provided by sampling digitized incoming phone line signals at 4 times carrier frequency, and employing values representing 0 and 90 degree samples to extract the information signal.

A circuit for sensing network speed in a test instrument for local area networks (LANs) is provided. After coupling the test instrument to the LAN of unknown speed, a link pulse is found among the twisted-wire pairs so that the test instrument is configured for the transmit and receive pairs. The link pulse is then coupled to a comparator that compares the received voltage against a predetermined reference voltage level to develop a trigger signal. The trigger signal is received by a timer circuit which measures time values from the link pulse. The time values are collected by a microprocessor are then compared against a decision value to reach a decision whether the test instrument is coupled to a link running 10BASE-T protocol, 100BASE-T protocol, or a 10/100 dual-speed device. After the decision has been determined, the appropriate chipset is then powered up and coupled to the LAN, thereby minimizing battery drain and preventing errors from being introduced in the LAN by the test instrument.
