Systems and methods consistent with the present disclosure include techniques for automatically switching a non-transparent bridge enabled root port (NeRP) device from a non-transparent bridge configuration state and a root port configuration state. A NeRP agent consistent with the present consistent includes a root port agent within a computing fabric network coupled to a first multiplexer and to a second multiplexer. The root port agent includes training circuitry to initiate a root port configuration state upon detection of a root port. Furthermore, the training circuitry also initiates a device configuration state upon detection of an endpoint port. A non-transparent bridge device is coupled to the first multiplexer and second multiplexer. In addition, an input/output (I/O) connector is coupled to the root port agent during the root port configuration state and coupled to the local NTB device and root port agent during the device configuration state.

After receiving the anchor frame, the decoder may be arranged to start the next frame after the anchor frame instantly. Once the most recent historical anchor frame is played in to the decoder, the decoder may pick off the next frame after the anchor frame at a normal cadence. A program stream may be run in a delayed state by the decoder from an alternate channel buffer activated in response to a channel change. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Method and apparatus for switching program streams using a fixed speed program stream buffer coupled to a decoder

Various embodiments for switching programs streams using a variable speed program stream buffer coupled to a variable speed decoder are described. In one or more embodiments, the variable speed program stream buffer may be arranged to receive multiple program streams, such as video program streams, and to buffer historical frames comprising at least one anchor frame. The variable speed program stream buffer may be arranged to always comprise at least one anchor frame and may be implemented by running and/or elastic buffers corresponding to an active channel program stream and one or more alternate channel program streams. Upon detecting a channel switch point, the historical frames comprising the anchor frame up to the channel switch point may be provided to the variable speed decoder in an accelerated manner. The historical frames may be provided to the variable speed decoder in a very short time instant or burst, such as within a time interval of one frame count or less, to enable the variable speed decoder to catch up to the notion of real time. Machine-readable media, methods, and apparatus are described for flexibly establishing lanes of links. In some embodiments, any port of a device may be connected to another port of another device. Further, the device may determine interconnections of its ports to ports of other devices by issuing requests on its ports.

A multiphase encoded protocol has sufficient density of commands to allow a rich language to be realized on a bus. When ten field bits are dedicated to commands, it is possible to have more than six million words to choose from per clock. Architecture to implement the multiphase encoded protocol and synchronize the bus includes an extracted clock, a command element, and a data element. One-bit multipliers are used as correlation elements to provide feedback into slaved delay-locked loop (DLL) devices, which provides precise phase alignment for successful data extraction of several channels.

A system includes multiple agents coupled to an optical bus for transmission of high speed signals and to an electrical bus for transmission of low speed signals. The agents can be memory modules, such as DIMMs. An optical connector housing for coupling the agent to the optical bus can include a reflective device such a mirror, a semi reflective mirror, a pellicle beamsplitter, or the like. The low speed signals can be, for example, power, ground, and supervisory signals. The high speed signals can be, for example, data, address, control, and clock signals.

Various embodiments of apparatus and various embodiments of methods to communicate between a first circuit board and a second circuit board using one or more open air communication channels are provided. A plurality of light transmitters and light receivers are attached to a first circuit board; and a corresponding plurality of light receivers and light transmitters are attached to a second circuit board. The light receivers on both circuit boards are disposed to receive data transmitted by the corresponding light transmitters on each circuit board. In one embodiment, where the light transmitters are laser diodes, different colors may be used to increase adjacent signal rejection. In another embodiment, the light transmitters may be laser, radio, microwave, digital, ultraviolet, or infrared light transmitters. The light transmitters may transmit data across open spaces between circuit boards, including through apertures in boards placed between the light transmitter and light receiver.

According to one aspect of the invention, a method is provided in which one or more requests are received to transmit data between a first device and a second device via a bus having a plurality of data lines. A first number of data lines is assigned for data transmission from the first device to the second device and a second number of data lines is assigned for data transmission from the second device to the first device, based upon a set of rules. Data are transmitted from the first device to the second device using the first number of data lines and from the second device to the first device using the second number of data lines.
