In one embodiment, an airfoil includes an airfoil body portion, an airfoil tip portion disposed radially outward of the airfoil body portion, an airfoil root portion, and a plurality of radial cooling passages extending through the airfoil body portion from the root portion to the tip airfoil portion. The airfoil body portion and the airfoil tip portion are joined at a braze interface or a weld interface. The airfoil tip portion includes at least one manifold fluidly connecting at least one radial cooling passage to at least one other radial cooling passage.

A method of treating a substrate of a turbomachine component includes applying a coating to a surface of the substrate of the turbomachine component and peening the substrate after applying the coating to the surface by directing a peening force onto the coating whereby the peening force on the coating is transferred through the coating to the substrate. A method of treating an internal surface of a turbomachine component includes directing a peening force at the internal surface within a cooling passage of the turbomachine component.

An airfoil assembly for a turbine engine, that may comprise: an airfoil that includes at least one panel opening formed therein; and an aperture panel that includes at least one cooling aperture; wherein the panel opening and the aperture panel are configured such that, upon installation of the aperture panel within the panel opening, a substantially smooth outer surface of the airfoil is formed and at least one of the cooling apertures of the aperture panel forms an exit passageway from at least one hollow internal cavity within the airfoil.

Methods and apparatus relating to turbine airfoil cooling apertures

A thermal barrier coating (TBC) system is provided. The system includes at least one thermal barrier coating (TBC) bond coat layer formed over a substrate surface region. The TBC bond coat layer includes at least one TBC bond coat material. The TBC bond coat material is a nickel-chromium-aluminum-yttrium (NiCrAlY) composition that also includes silicon (Si), hafnium (Hf) and less than 10 weight percent (wt %) cobalt (Co). The TBC system further includes at least one top coat layer formed over the TBC bond coat layer.
