An air purge apparatus and method is presented to protect an imaging system from contamination by particulate matter and other substances in the ambient environment. The apparatus is adapted to be placed adjacent to a viewing window, lens or optics of an imaging system and to provide a protective flow of air. The apparatus includes a curved surface to direct air from a first plenum toward an imaging path in front of the apparatus. The apparatus also includes one or more openings nearer the lens to direct air from a second plenum into the imaging path. The air from the first plenum entrains air from the second plenum and ambient air to create a fluid stream away from the viewing window, lens, or optics and may form a fluid barrier to reduce contamination of a volume of air in the imaging path of the imaging sensor.

Air purge collar

A thermal imaging device, which may be incorporated in an industrial monitoring system, is contained and protected by an enclosure that includes a window assembly. The window assembly includes a removable window and a temperature sensor, wherein the window provides a passage for infrared radiation to the imaging device, within the enclosure, and the temperature sensor is positioned, within the enclosure, for measuring a temperature of the removable window, and is adapted to communicate with circuitry of the imaging device. The window assembly may further include a removable retaining ring and a mounting plate. The mounting plate may include a bezel and an outer shoulder formed in a first side thereof, wherein the bezel receives the removable window and the outer shoulder receives the retaining ring, so that the retaining ring may hold the window against the bezel.

Protective enclosure for a thermal imaging device of an industrial monitoring system

A thermographic analysis method and apparatus is provided. The method includes obtaining base-line and operational thermographic profiles of a subject area, calculating a difference profile from the base-line and operational thermographic profiles, and providing an indication from the difference profile. The indication may be also based on thermographic differences in portions of the subject area that are defined as thermographic zones.

System and method for detecting thermographic anomalies

An infrared imaging system having functionality for maintaining image quality in the presence of temperature drift of the system. Such functionality is applied repetitively to maintain image quality of a target scene, yet without continuous actuation of a shutter of the system. The functionality of the imaging system results from implementing an imager algorithm. In use, the imager algorithm functions with a calibration curve created for the imaging system, with the curve comprising a plot of system output versus target scene temperature.

Shutterless infrared imager algorithm with drift correction

A thermal imaging apparatus comprises a housing defining an entrance pupil for ingress of imaging radiation. At least one light sensor is positioned forward of the entrance pupil. An electronic imaging device such as a focal plane array is located in the housing rearward of the entrance pupil for converting imaging radiation to electrical signals for further processing. The apparatus further includes a shutter having an open position and a closed position. In the closed position, the shutter is located between the entrance pupil and the electronic imaging device so as to inhibit exposure of the electronic imaging device to incident radiation. Circuitry is provided for selectively operating the shutter to be in the closed position based on signals produced at the light sensor.

Thermal imager having sunlight exposure protection mechanism

A radiometer includes a sighting system that generates a digital image of an object surface having an area that is to be imaged onto the IR detector. A shape outline is overlaid on the digital image of an object surface to indicate the extent of the energy zone that is imaged onto the IR detector. In one embodiment, a shape is displayed between the locations of two imaged skewed laser dots to indicate the extent of the energy zone without requiring a range determination.

Method and apparatus for electronically generating an outline indicating the size of an energy zone imaged onto the IR detector of a radiometer

A thermal imaging apparatus comprises a thermal image camera having a lens and a display. The camera further includes a focal plane array located behind the lens for converting imaging radiation to produce an image signal for further processing. A shutter mechanism is operative to selectively inhibit exposure of the focal plane array to the imaging radiation such that the focal plane array produces a reference signal. Processing circuitry is operative to receive the image signal and produce a corresponding thermal image on the display. The processing circuitry is further operative to utilize the image signal and the reference signal to derive temperature information.

Thermal imager utilizing improved radiometric calibration technique

A radiometer includes a sighting system that generates a digital image of an object surface having an area that is to be imaged onto the IR detector. A shape outline is overlaid on the digital image of an object surface to indicate the extent of the energy zone that is imaged onto the IR detector. A rangefinder measures the distance between the radiometer and the object surface and the measured distance is utilized to determine the size of the overlaid shape.

An improved ratio type infrared thermometer utilizes integrating amplifiers for each waveband having the integration time automatically set so that the output voltage utilizes the full range of an analog to digital convertor. The gain and offset of the amplifiers is not ambient temperature dependent so accurate digital representations of the signal for each waveband are provided. The linearized output of each detector is optionally provided so that special or proprietary algorithms for computing the temperature of colored objects can be utilized. A special feature for downloading of updated new programs utilizes a 'programming jumper' and an attenuation warning signal is provided for selected levels of attenuation.

Ratio type infrared thermometer

Passive infrared intrusion detector with means for determining the location of the fields of view covered by the system. In one disclosed embodiment, a small mirror is positioned near the sensing element and oriented so that a person looking at this mirror sees the fields of view through the optical system of the detector. A reference mark on the mirror appears in each of the fields seen by the person.
