The embodiments described herein provide a high-luminous flux laser-based white light source. A plurality of laser packages are arranged in an array pattern on a common support member. The plurality of laser packages each include one or more laser diode devices and a phosphor member. The phosphor member converts a fraction of the electromagnetic radiation from each of the laser diode devices to an emitted electromagnetic radiation and a white light is outputted.

High-luminous flux laser-based white light source

A portable lighting apparatus is provided with a gallium-and-nitrogen containing laser diode based white light source combined with an infrared illumination source which are driven by drivers disposed in a printed circuit board assembly enclosed in a compact housing and powered by a portable power supply therein. The portable lighting apparatus includes a first wavelength converter configured to output a white-color emission and an infrared emission. A beam shaper may be configured to direct the white-color emission and the infrared emission to a front aperture of a compact housing of the portable lighting apparatus. An optical transmitting unit is configured to project or transmit a directional light beam of the white light emission and/or the infrared emission for illuminating a target of interest, transmitting a pulsed sensing signal or modulated data signal generated by the drivers therein. In some configurations, detectors are included for depth sensing and visible/infrared light communications.

Specialized mobile light device configured with a gallium and nitrogen containing laser source

The present invention is directed to wearable display technologies. More specifically, various embodiments of the present invention provide wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projection display systems where one or more laser diodes are used as light source for illustrating images with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. In one set of embodiments, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projector systems that utilize transparent waveguides and blue and/or green laser fabricated using gallium nitride containing material. In another set of embodiments, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projection systems having digital lighting processing engines illuminated by blue and/or green laser devices with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. In one embodiment, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating a 3D display system with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. There are other embodiments as well.

Wearable laser based display method and system

A laser-based fiber-coupled white light system is provided. The system includes a laser device comprising a gallium and nitrogen containing emitting region having an output facet configured to output a laser emission with a first wavelength ranging from 385 nm to 495 nm. The system further includes a phosphor member integrated with light collimation elements. The phosphor member converts the laser emission with the first wavelength to a phosphor emission with a second wavelength in either reflective or transmissive mode and mixed partially with laser emission to produce a white light emission. The system includes a transport fiber coupled to the phosphor member via the light collimation elements to receive the white light emission and deliver the white light emission remotely to a lighthead for either directly distributing white light on road or to a leaky fiber for illumination applications by side-scattering.

Laser-based fiber-coupled white light system for a vehicle

The embodiments described herein provide a device and method for an integrated white colored electromagnetic radiation source using a combination of laser diode excitation sources based on gallium and nitrogen containing materials and light emitting source based on phosphor materials. A violet, blue, or other wavelength laser diode source based on gallium and nitrogen materials may be closely integrated with phosphor materials, such as yellow phosphors, to form a compact, high-brightness, and highly-efficient, white light source. The phosphor material is provided with a plurality of scattering centers scribed on an excitation surface or inside bulk of a plate to scatter electromagnetic radiation of a laser beam from the excitation source incident on the excitation surface to enhance generation and quality of an emitted light from the phosphor material for outputting a white light emission either in reflection mode or transmission mode.

Integrated white light source using a laser diode and a phosphor in a surface mount device package

A laser-based fiber-coupled white light system is provided. The system includes a laser device comprising a gallium and nitrogen containing emitting region having an output facet configured to output a laser emission with a first wavelength ranging from 385 nm to 495 nm. The system further includes a phosphor member to receive the laser emission in a range of angles of incidence to a spot on a primary surface with a size greater than 5 μm. The phosphor member converts the laser emission with the first wavelength to a phosphor emission with a second wavelength in either reflective or transmissive mode and mixed at least partially with laser emission to produce a white light emission. Additionally, the system includes a fiber coupled to the phosphor member to capture the white light emission to deliver the white light emission to a remote lighthead or distribute the white light emission directly.

A distance detecting system for use in mobile machines comprises a gallium and nitrogen containing laser diode disposed within a light of a mobile machine. The gallium and nitrogen containing laser diode is configured to emit a first light with a first peak wavelength. A wavelength conversion member is configured to produce a white light. A first sensing light signal is based on the first peak wavelength. One or more optical elements are configured to direct at least partially the white light to illuminate one or more target objects or areas and to transmit respectively the first sensing light signal for sensing at least one remote point. A detector is configured to detect reflected signals of the first sensing light signal to determine coordinates of the at least one remote point.

Distance detecting systems for use in mobile machines including gallium and nitrogen containing laser diodes

A smart light source configured for visible light communication. The light source includes a controller comprising a modem configured to receive a data signal and generate a driving current and a modulation signal based on the data signal. Additionally, the light source includes a light emitter configured as a pump-light device to receive the driving current for producing a directional electromagnetic radiation with a first peak wavelength in the ultra-violet or blue wavelength regime modulated to carry the data signal using the modulation signal. Further, the light source includes a pathway configured to direct the directional electromagnetic radiation and a wavelength converter optically coupled to the pathway to receive the directional electromagnetic radiation and to output a white-color spectrum. Furthermore, the light source includes a beam shaper configured to direct the white-color spectrum for illuminating a target of interest and transmitting the data signal.

Intelligent visible light with a gallium and nitrogen containing laser source

A distance detecting system for use in an automotive application comprises a gallium and nitrogen containing laser diode disposed within an automotive light. The gallium and nitrogen containing laser diode is configured to emit a first light with a first peak wavelength. A wavelength conversion member is configured to produce a white light. A first sensing light signal is based on the first peak wavelength. One or more optical elements are configured to direct at least partially the white light to illuminate one or more target objects or areas and to transmit respectively the first sensing light signal for sensing at least one remote point. A detector is configured to detect reflected signals of the first sensing light signal to determine coordinates of the at least one remote point.

Distance detecting systems for use in mobile machine applications

A laser illumination or dazzler device and method. More specifically, examples of the present invention provide laser illumination or dazzling devices power by one or more violet, blue, or green laser diodes characterized by a wavelength from about 390 nm to about 550 nm. In some examples the laser illumination or dazzling devices include a laser pumped phosphor wherein a laser beam with a first wavelength excites a phosphor member to emit electromagnetic at a second wavelength. In various examples, laser illumination or dazzling devices according to the present invention include polar, non-polar, or semi-polar laser diodes. In a specific example, a single laser illumination or dazzling device includes a plurality of violet, blue, or green laser diodes. There are other examples as well.

Laser device for white light

A structured phosphor device includes a frame member that includes wall regions separating multiple openings of window regions. Further, the structured phosphor device includes a phosphor material filled in each of the multiple openings with a first surface thereof being exposed to an excitation light from one or more laser sources to generate an emitted light out of each window region. Additionally, the structured phosphor device includes an anti-reflective film overlying the first surface of the phosphor material. Furthermore, the structured phosphor device includes a substrate attached to a second surface of the phosphor material in each of the multiple openings. Alternatively, the structured phosphor device includes an array of phosphor pixels dividing a plate of single-crystalline or poly-crystalline phosphor material separated by optically reflective and thermally conductive walls. A dynamic lighting system based on the arrays of phosphor pixels for single or full color image projection is also disclosed.

In an example, the present invention provides an optical engine apparatus. The apparatus has a laser diode device, the laser diode device characterized by a wavelength ranging from 300 to 2000 nm or any variations thereof. In an example, the apparatus has a lens coupled to an output of the laser diode device and a scanning mirror device operably coupled to the laser diode device. In an example, the apparatus has an un-patterned phosphor plate coupled to the scanning mirror and configured with the laser device; and a spatial image formed on a portion of the un-patterned phosphor plate configured by a modulation of the laser and movement of the scanning mirror device.

Laser lighting having selective resolution

The present disclosure provides an apparatus for generating fiber delivered laser-induced dynamically controlled white light emission. The apparatus includes a laser diode unit for generating a laser electromagnetic radiation with a blue emission in a range from 395 nm to 490 nm that is delivered by an optical fiber. The apparatus further includes a dynamic phosphor unit configured to receive the laser exited from the optical fiber and controllably deflect a beam focused by a first optics sub-unit to a surface spot on a phosphor plate to produce a white light emission. Additionally, and the dynamic phosphor unit includes a second optics sub-unit configured to collect the white light emission and to project to a far field. Furthermore, the apparatus includes an electronics control unit comprising a laser diode driver and a MEMS driver for respectively control the laser diode unit and the dynamic phosphor unit in mutually synchronized manner.
