A non-woven hydroentangled textile is described formed in cross-section with a central area of low mass fiber density surrounded on both sides by areas of higher mass density. Further, a personal cleansing article is described wherein the hydroentangled textile is associated with a personal cleansing composition that includes a lathering surfactant. The composition is deposited onto, impregnated into or at least is partially enclosed by the textile. Also described is a process for producing the textile involving feeding into a hydroentangling unit a loose random assembly of fibers both above and below a fibrous screen modifying textile substrate.

Hydroentangled textile and use in a personal cleansing implement

A substantially dry personal care cleansing article is provided which includes a water-insoluble substrate and associated with the substrate a personal care cleansing composition. The latter includes at least one lathering surfactant and at least about 2% of a cationic polymer. The composition has an average particle size ranging from about 75 to about 900 micron. The cationic polymer improves the rapidity and duration of foam formation when the article is wetted with water to activate the surfactant.

An article is provided for cleansing surfaces, the article includes a curvilinear pouch formed from a plurality of walls, at least one of the walls being water permeable, and at least one of the walls being formed from at least one web of non-woven entangled fibers, the fibers being entangled in a direction perpendicular to a major longitudinal axis of the web. An effervescent cleanser composition which is an anhydrous dry solid activatable by water to generated gases is held within the pouch, and upon generation of gases the pouch walls billow outwardly. Orientation of the entangled fibers in the direction of the minor axis minimizes puckering of the article in use.

A packaged cosmetic product is provided which includes multiple effervescent sachets placed within a tub with an open dispensing mouth. A carbon dioxide breathable and moisture barrier foil is arranged sealingly to close the dispensing mouth. Any carbon dioxide generated during storage, usually as a result of moisture prematurely effervescing powder within the sachets, is allowed to slowly diffuse into the atmosphere through the window formed by the special foil. The tub is formed of walls which do not have any substantial carbon dioxide breathability but do prevent inward moisture penetration.

An article for cleansing body surfaces is provided which includes an effervescent cleansing composition capable of generating a foam upon contact with water and a pouch for housing the composition. The composition is a substantially dry flowable powder which includes an alkaline material, an acid, and a particulate composition, the latter pre-formed as a carrier solid of surface area greater than 10 m /g onto which is absorbed at least one liquid or semi-liquid skin benefit agent. Calcium silicate is particularly useful as a carrier solid.

A packaged effervescent product is provided which includes a sachet surrounded by an outer package film sealing the sachet against water vapor transmission. The sachet is a cosmetic article which includes an effervescent cleansing composition of an acid material such as citric add and an alkaline material such as sodium bicarbonate. The composition is held within the sealed sachet or pouch. At least one wall of the pouch is water permeable. The outer package film is formed of a material which must have a breathability for carbon dioxide. Any carbon dioxide generated during storage is thereby allowed to slowly diffuse into the atmosphere while still minimizing the amount of water which may enter the package.
