A method of aligning reference frames for an augmented reality display is provided. The method comprises receiving three or more target images positioned at predefined physical reference points in a specified physical space, wherein the physical reference points are part of a reference frame of the physical space. Distances between the physical reference points of the target images are calculated and compared with distances between virtual reference points comprising a reference frame of a three-dimensional virtual model to create a number of distance comparisons. The physical reference points are correlated with virtual reference points according to the distance comparisons. The reference frame of the physical space is then aligned with the reference frame of the three-dimensional virtual model according to the correlation of the physical reference points and virtual reference points.

A device includes a processor configured to detect that a mobile device is within a coverage area of a wireless transceiver. The processor is also configured to select, based at least in part on a mobile device identifier of the mobile device, a data package identifier from a plurality of data package identifiers. The device also includes the wireless transceiver. The wireless transceiver is configured to transmit a command instructing the mobile device to access a data package corresponding to the selected data packet identifier. The command includes authorization data indicating that the processor is a trusted source.

A system includes an alignment tool and an augmented-reality (AR) imaging device. The alignment tool has a pointer and a fiducial marker, and is carried by an operator within a physical workspace. The AR imaging device tracks the fiducial marker in the physical workspace using one or more sensors, and determines positional coordinates of the pointer at physical reference locations within the physical workspace based on a position and orientation of the fiducial marker. The physical reference locations are associated with different virtual reference points within a virtual model. The AR imaging device generates a transfer function to fit positional coordinates of the virtual reference points with the positional coordinates of the associated physical reference locations, and displays virtual content on a display according to the transfer function such that the virtual content is spatially-registered with the physical workspace.

One or more systems, methods, routines and/or techniques for automated frame of reference calibration for augmented reality are described. One or more systems, methods, routines and/or techniques may allow for calibration of an Augmented Reality (AR) system, for example, by automatically calibrating the frames of reference of virtual objects and/or a camera. One example calibration routine and/or technique may determine and/or calculate a mapping or transform from a frame of reference of a virtual object (e.g., a CAD model) to a coordinate frame associated with the tracking system. Another example calibration routine and/or technique may determine and/or calculate a mapping or transform from a camera lens frame of reference to a frame of reference of the whole camera as determined by a tracking system. These routines and/or techniques may calibrate an AR system to provide rapid, precise alignment between virtual content and a live camera view of a real scene.

The method includes using a system including three-dimensional stereoscopic projection equipment to project an image onto a complex surface of a physical object disposed in an area. The complex surface includes at least one curve or angle. The system also includes a device worn by a user or disposed on a mobile device. The method further includes warping the image based on a geometry of the complex surface, tracking a position and orientation of the user or the mobile device, and further warping the image based on the position and orientation.

The method includes storing model data associated with the workpiece in an inspection system, determining a relative position of a depth sensing device relative to the workpiece, and calibrating a pose view for the inspection system relative to the model based on the position of the depth sensing device relative to the workpiece. The method further includes measuring actual depth distance data of at least one pixel of the depth sensing device relative to the workpiece and determining, based on the actual depth distance data, if the workpiece satisfies predetermined inspection criteria.

A RFID tag reading function of a RFID tag reader integrated into user apparel is enabled. The RFID tag reader comprises a set of touch activation components integrated into the user apparel. A touch activation component in the set of touch activation components is pressed against a surface in proximity of a RFID tag associated with an aircraft component. The RFID tag reader transmits an interrogate signal to an RFID tag associated with the aircraft component. The user observes a display device coupled to the RFID tag reader integrated into the user apparel, wherein the display device displays RFID tag information received from the RFID tag in response to the interrogate signal. The RFID tag information comprises data describing the aircraft component. The user receives the RFID tag information without interrupting an assembly task.

An association between the location on the object and a number of points in a point cloud for the object is identified. The number of points in the point cloud is associated with a number of parts for the object. An identification of the number of parts associated with the location on the object is presented on a graphical user interface on a display system. Object management system

A system and method are provided in which an element of a structure may be reliably identified. For example, a system may include a part selection element configured to interact with at least one positional marker having a predefined location. The part selection element is also configured to select at least a portion of a structure, with the structure being positioned at a predetermined location and orientation. The part selection element may also be configured to identify a depth within the structure. The system also includes a computing device configured to identify an element of the structure based upon the position and orientation of the part selection element and the portion of the structure selected by the part selection element. In instances in which a depth is identified, the computing device may also be configured to identify the element of the structure at the depth identified within the structure.
