Open-field handheld fluorescence imaging systems and methods

A method of visualizing tissue of a subject includes receiving a fluorescence image of the tissue of the subject, wherein the fluorescence image comprises a plurality of intensity values, a first portion of the intensity values are associated with a first fluorescence emission that is from fluorescence agent that is preferentially accumulated or activated in a target region in the tissue and a second portion of the intensity values are associated with a second fluorescence emission that is from fluorescence agent that is not located within the target region in the tissue; generating an enhanced fluorescence image by reducing one or more of the intensity values that are below a threshold intensity value to increase contrast between the target region in the tissue and areas that are associated with the fluorescence agent that is not located within the target region in the tissue; and displaying the enhanced fluorescence image.

Contrast enhancement for medical imaging

A method for fluorescence imaging includes receiving first fluorescence imaging data, receiving a user input selecting a reference region associated with the first fluorescence imaging data, determining a reference fluorescence intensity level based on the reference region, receiving second fluorescence imaging data, determining a relative fluorescence intensity level of a region associated with the second fluorescence imaging data that is relative to the reference fluorescence intensity level, and displaying an indication of the relative fluorescence intensity level.

Systems and methods for illumination and imaging of a target

A method of displaying a colorized luma image includes illuminating tissue under observation with illumination light and excitation light. A color image from reflectance of the illumination light and a fluorescence image produced by illuminating the tissue under observation with the excitation light are simultaneously detected at an image sensor to produce image data comprising both color image data and fluorescence image data. A luma image from the detected color image data is computed and the luma image is colorized based on the detected fluorescence image data. The colorized luma image is then displayed.

Imaging systems and methods for displaying fluorescence and visible images

Adaptive imaging methods and systems for generating enhanced low light video of an object for medical visualization are disclosed and include acquiring, with an image acquisition assembly, a sequence of reference frames and/or a sequence of low light video frames depicting the object, assessing relative movement between the image acquisition assembly and the object based on at least a portion of the acquired sequence of reference video frames or the acquired sequence of low light video frames, adjusting a level of image processing of the low light video frames based at least in part on the relative movement between the image acquisition assembly and the object, and generating a characteristic low light video output from a quantity of the low light video frames, wherein the quantity of the low light video frames is based on the adjusted level of image processing of the low light video frames.

Methods and systems for adaptive imaging for low light signal enhancement in medical visualization

An endoscopic video system and method using a camera with a single color image sensor, for example a CCD color image sensor, for fluorescence and color imaging and for simultaneously displaying the images acquired in these imaging modes at video rates in real time is disclosed. The tissue under investigation is illuminated continuously with fluorescence excitation light and is further illuminated periodically using visible light outside of the fluorescence excitation wavelength range. The illumination sources may be conventional lamps using filters and shutters, or may include light-emitting diodes mounted at the distal tip of the endoscope.

An imaging system for acquisition of NIR and full-color images includes a light source providing visible light and NIR light to an area under observation, such as living tissue, a camera having one or more image sensors configured to separately detect blue reflectance light, green reflectance light, and combined red reflectance light/detected NIR light returned from the area under observation. A controller in signal communication with the light source and the camera is configured to control the light source to continuously illuminate area under observation with temporally continuous blue/green illumination light and with red illumination light and NIR excitation light. At least one of the red illumination light and NIR excitation light are switched on and off periodically in synchronism with the acquisition of red and NIR light images in the camera.

An imaging device may include a first illumination port to output first light having a first illumination distribution at a target to illuminate the target, a second illumination port to output second light having a second illumination distribution at the target to illuminate the target, the second illumination distribution being substantially similar to the first illumination distribution at the target, the second illumination port being spaced apart from the first illumination port, the first and second illumination distributions being simultaneously provided to the target and overlapping at the target. The illumination from the first and second ports may be matched to a same aspect ratio and field of view coverage as the imaging field of view.
