Materials and Methods are provided for fabricating microfluidic devices. The materials include low surface energy fluoropolymer compositions having multiple cure functional groups. The materials can include multiple photocurable and/or thermal-curable functional groups such that laminate devices can be fabricated. The materials also substantially do not swell in the presence of hydrocarbon solvents.

Methods and materials for fabricating microfluidic devices

Hexafluoroisobutylene and its higher homologs are easily reacted with SOto give fluorosulfates of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)CFOSOF, wherein R is a linear branched or cyclic fluoroalkyl group comprised of 1 to 10 carbon atoms and may contain ether oxygen. These compounds react under mild conditions with many nucleophiles to give CH&#x2550;C(R)CFX, where X is derived from the nucleophile. This reaction provides a route to many substituted hexafluoroisobutylenes, which copolymerize easily with other fluoro- and hydrocarbon monomers such as vinylidene fluoride and ethylene.

Fluorosulfates of hexafluoroisobutylene and its higher homologs and their derivatives

Polymers, containing a fluorocyclobutyl ring and their preparation

A process is disclosed for producing (CF ) C&boxH;CH , CF CH&boxH;CF , CF &boxH;C(CF )OCF CHF and C H C(CF )&boxH;CF . The process involves contacting the corresponding fluorocarbon starting material selected from (CF ) CFCH F, (CF ) CHF, (CF ) CFOCF CHF and C H CF(CF ) , in the vapor phase, with a defluorination reagent selected from carbon, copper, iron nickel and zinc at an elevated temperature of at least 300 &deg; C.

Preparation of selected fluoroolefins

This invention pertains to olefins having a terminally disposed fluorocyclobutyl ring bearing a sulfonyl, sulfonic acid or sulfonate salt, a process for the production thereof, and polymers, especially ionomers, formed therefrom. The invention further pertains to ionically conductive compositions formed by the combination of a liquid and the ionomer of the invention, and electrochemical devices such as electrodes, sensors, and solid polymer electrolytes comprising those conductive compositions. The polymers of the invention arc useful in the formation of films and coatings with high chemical resistance and good physical properties. The ionomers of the invention are useful in electrochemical applications, particularly in lithium batteries. The polymeric compositions of the invention are useful for strong acid catalysis, such as Friedel-Crafts alkylation.

A good yield, high reaction rate process is disclosed for the production of perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ethers). The process involves elimination of halogen, preferably chlorine, from carbon atoms &agr; and &bgr; to an ether oxygen in an &agr;,&bgr;-dihaloperfluoro ether wherein the &agr;,&bgr;-dihaloperfluoro ether is allowed to react with zero valent zinc in a pyrrolidinone solvent. More particularly, the inventive process relates to high yield production of CF &boxH;CFOCF CF SO F from CF ClCFClOCF CF SO F wherein CF ClCFClOCF CF SO F is allowed to react with zero valent zinc in the presence of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone.

The process includes a step (a) involving the reaction of hexafluoropropylene epoxide (HFPO) with a mixture of carbonyl fluoride (CF) and perfluoroacetyl fluoride (PAF) to produce a mixture of 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)propionic acid fluoride (PMPF) and 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-2-(pentafluoroethoxy)propionic acid fluoride (PEPF). In a second step, a mixture of PMPF and PEPF made in the step (a) is dehalocarbonylated to produce a mixture of PMVE and PEVE.
