The present disclosure relates to passenger car engine lubricating oil compositions and methods of lubricating a crankcase of a passenger car engine with such lubricating oil compositions effective to achieve fuel economy improvement when using select calcium sulfonate-based compounds combined with one or more oil-soluble molybdenum compounds in ultra-low viscosity engine oils.

Lubricating composition for enhanced fuel economy

The present disclosure relates to engine lubricating oil compositions and methods of lubricating a diesel internal combustion engine effective to achieve robust performance in both durability (i.e., piston cleanliness) and improved fuel economy. In one aspect, the engine lubricating oil compositions herein have a composition effective to achieve passing piston cleanliness pursuant to CEC L-117-20 (i.e., the VW TDi3 test) and to achieve a positive fuel economy increase as measured pursuant to JASO M 366, and preferably a fuel economy improvement as measured pursuant to JASO M 366 of at least about 0.5 percent. The engine lubricating oil compositions herein may have a viscosity grade of 0W-8, 0W-12, 0W16, and/or 0W-20.

Lubricating composition for durability and enhanced fuel economy

Detergent systems for oxidation resistance in lubricants

The present disclosure relates to methods for improving phosphorus retention and improving antiwear performance in an internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle, comprising lubricating the internal combustion engine of the hybrid vehicle with a lubricating oil composition comprising: greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity; and an amount of one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s) sufficient to provide: from about 100 ppmw phosphorus to about 1000 ppmw phosphorus, based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition; and from about 10 ppmw zinc to about 1200 ppmw zinc, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition.

Lubricating compositions for a hybrid engine

A lubricant composition having greater than 50 percent by weight of a base oil, a dispersant composition comprising: i) a first dispersant comprising one or more reaction products of at least one polyisobutenyl succinic acid or anhydride having a polyisobutenyl group with a number average molecular weight that is less than or equal to 1300, and at least one polyamine; and ii) a second dispersant comprising one or more reaction products of at least one polyisobutenyl succinic acid or anhydride having a polyisobutenyl group with a number average molecular weight greater than 1300, and at least one polyamine; and at least one ashless antioxidant; and wherein a weight ratio of the second dispersant to the dispersant composition is 0.66:1 to 1:1 or a ratio of the weight percentages of nitrogen contributed by the second dispersant to nitrogen of the dispersant composition is 0.62:1 to 1:1.

Lubricant composition and dispersants therefor having a beneficial effect on oxidation stability

An engine oil composition including greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity selected from a Group III, a Group IV or a Group V base oil, and mixtures thereof, 0.1-10 wt. % of a dispersant viscosity index improver that a reaction product of an olefin copolymer, an acylating agent and a polyamine, one or more calcium-containing detergents that provide from about 900 ppmw to about 2500 ppmw of calcium to the engine oil composition, and one or more molybdenum-containing compounds. The engine oil composition has an SAE viscosity grade of 0W-X or 5W-X, wherein X=16, 20, 30, or 40; from about 500 ppmw to about 1000 ppmw of phosphorus; and a total sulfated ash content of no greater than 1.2 wt. %, as measured by ASTM D874. Methods of using the engine oil composition to lubricate or operate an engine are also described.

Dispersant viscosity index improvers to enhance wear protection in engine oils

A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine with reduced low-speed pre-ignition events and corrosion resistance. The oil composition includes a base oil, one or more overbased calcium sulfonate detergents, one or more overbased calcium phenate detergents, and one or more overbased magnesium-containing detergents. A ratio of ppm of calcium to TBN of the oil composition is less than 170; a ratio of ppm of magnesium to total soap content in wt. % is greater than 700; and there are limited amounts of boron and molybdenum, and all weight percentages and ppm values being based on the total weight of the oil composition. The compositions give low LSPI ratios and pass the Ball Rust test.

Lubricants with calcium and magnesium-containing detergents and their use for improving low-speed pre-ignition and for corrosion resistance

A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil composition includes greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil, one or more overbased calcium sulfonate detergent(s) and one or more overbased calcium phenate detergent(s). The calcium, boron, nitrogen, and amount of soap are maintained within certain ratios, and the total base number contribution from all detergents to the lubricating oil composition is less than 4.2 mg KOH/g of the lubricating oil composition, as measured by the method of ASTM D-2896. The lubricating oil composition and method may be effective to reduce low-speed pre-ignition events in a boosted internal combustion engine lubricated with the lubricating oil composition relative to capable lubricating oil compositions.
