A method measures an object having a feature. The feature has a plurality of profiles each having a surface. The method provides a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) having a wrist coupled with a measuring prob. The probe has a tolerance angle with respect to a surface normal of a surface to be measured. The wrist has a first given orientation that is adjustable to a second given orientation. The method determines an ideal vector that can be used to measure a given segment within the tolerance. The method also determines the wrist orientation in a CMM coordinate space. The method determines the ideal vector in the CMM coordinate space to define a part vector. A probe vector is determined from the wrist and probe characteristics. The probe vector is aligned with the part vector. The feature is measured.

Implementing specific hardware to follow an efficient measurement protocol

A method and apparatus for measuring an object using a CMM receives nominal geometry data relating to the object, and produces a set-up path based on the received nominal geometry data. The method also conducts a set-up measurement of the object using a CMM probe. The CMM probe conducts the set-up measurement by following the set-up path, and the set-up measurement of the object produces scan path information. The method generates a scan path using the scan path information, and controls the CMM probe to conduct a fine measurement of the object by causing the CMM probe to move along the generated scan path.

CMM probe path controller and method

A probe head of a coordinate measuring machine ('CMM') includes a sensor to detect impact of the probe head with a foreign object. The probe head is movably coupled to the CMM such that the sensor detects motion of the probe head relative to a portion of the CMM resulting from an impact event. Some embodiments cause the CMM to take action in response to detecting an impact. Probe clips allow adjustment of the position of a CMM probe relative to the portion of the CMM from which the probe is suspended. This allows the position and orientation of the CMM probe to be adapted to a variety of applications.

Optical probe with crash protection and probe clips

A probe clip allows easy and accurate placement of a probe clip onto a coordinate measuring machine ('CMM'). Moreover various probe clips are configured to movably and adjustably secure an optical probe to the CMM. To that end, the probe clip may have a probe seat, for holding the probe, movably coupled to a clamp segment by an adjustable joint. The clamp segment movably couples the probe seat to a probe platform on the CMM.

Probe clips for a coordinate measuring machine

A method improves surface scanning measure machine speed while minimizing tip touchdown impact on the surface of the object being measured. Specifically, the method controls a surface scanning measuring machine having a probe head with a distal probe tip that contacts the surface of an object to be measured. To that end, the method selects a nominal initial contact point (on the surface) having a normal vector, and then moves the distal probe tip toward the nominal initial contact point along an approach path. The approach path has a generally linear portion that generally linearly extends from the nominal initial contact point to some non-contacting point spaced from the surface. The generally linear portion forms an angle of between about 20 degrees and about 60 degrees with the normal vector.

Method and apparatus for controlling a surface scanning coordinate measuring machine

A bird feeding assembly includes a tubular member that has a top end and a bottom end. A rod extends through the tubular member. The rod has a pair of outer ends extending in opposite directions with respect to the rod. A pair of loops is attached to the rod. A first cord has a first end positioned within the tubular member and a second end attached to and extending downwardly from the rod. A second cord has a first end positioned within the tubular member and a second end attached to and extending downwardly from the rod. Each of a pair of bird feeders is attached to one of the second ends of the first and second cords. A pulley apparatus is coupled to each of the cords and is adapted for selectively lifting or lowering the bird feeders with respect to the rod.
