An interposer configured for connecting arrays of signal pads on parallel surfaces is described. Contacts of the interposer are configured to provide multiple conductive paths. A first conductive path extends through the body of the contact. A second conductive path is formed in parallel to the first conductive path when the contact is compressed between opposed substrates. The contact includes an intermediate portion, a rigid portion laterally extending from the intermediate portion, and a pair of compliant arms extending from the intermediate portion in opposite directions along the mating axis. When the contact is compressed, both arms touch and form an electrical connection with the rigid portion. The presence of the rigid portion allows for a reduction in the length of the beams in tall contacts.

High performance interposer

A short, high density interposer. The interposer has multiple contacts, with upwards and downwards-facing contact surfaces. Each of the contacts may be formed as a beam stamped from a sheet of metal. Two sheets of metal may be used in forming the interposer. A first sheet may be stamped with upwards facing contacts. A second sheet may be stamped with downwards facing contacts. Bases of the beams on the first sheet may be fused with bases of the beams on the second sheet, creating a conducting path through the interposer, with compliant contacts at each end. The joined contacts may be separated from the sheets from which they are stamped and held together with an insulative base of the interposer. Beams shaped to form contacts in the interposer may be closely spaced when stamped in a sheet of metal and may have a low height.

Interposer assembly and method

A cable termination assembly configured for mounting to an interior portion of a printed circuit board. The cable termination assembly has a frame shaped to receive a paddle card to which a plurality of cables are terminated. A lid, when closed, may force the paddle card into contact with an interposer, which in turn may be pressed into a printed circuit board on which the cable termination assembly is mounted. Electrical signals may pass between the cables and traces in the printed circuit board via the paddle card and interposer. The termination assembly may be mounted near a processor or other high speed component on the printed circuit board, enabling high speed signals to be coupled with low loss between a periphery of the printed circuit board, or even a location off the printed circuit board, and the high speed component.

Midboard cable terminology assembly

An interposer assembly including a plate and a plurality of metal contacts extending through passages in the plate for forming electrical connections with pads on overlying and underlying substrates. The contacts include a number of contact units with elastic cantilever and torsion springs. Current flows through the contact units with minimum resistance.

The disclosure relates to interposer assembly plates with large numbers of closely spaced contact apertures extending through the plates and contact members inserted into and retained in the apertures.

Interposer assembly with flat contacts

An interposer assembly for forming electrical connections between contact pads on opposed substrates includes a top plate, a bottom plate, a lateral shift interface between the plates and a plurality of electrical circuit paths extending between contact surfaces at the top of the top plate and at the bottom of the bottom plate. The circuit paths maintain electrical connections between opposed pairs of pads on the substrates despite misalignment of the substrates or lateral shifting of the plates at the interface because of forces exerted on the substrates. The plates are secured together to permit limited lateral movement at the interface. The assembly may have a circuit board plate between the top and bottom plates and two lateral shift interfaces. The contacts may have very small and high contact pressure shear-formed contact tips.

An electrical connector assembly for connecting a flexible circuit to a circuit board includes a flexible circuit attached to a clamp member and a plurality of alignment posts extending from the circuit board. The clamp member has notches that receive the posts to place the contact field of the flexible circuit above the contact field of the circuit board. A spring assembly attached to the clamp member has a manually-operated drive that moves a cam member deflecting the spring against the posts, generating a spring force pressing the clamp member against the circuit board. Barriers formed on the posts prevent contact of the flexible circuit with the circuit board until the contact fields are properly aligned.

An electrical connector assembly includes a flexible circuit attached to a clamp member and a compression mat between the clamp member and the flexible circuit. The compression mat has a number of spaced-apart pillars that overlay contacts of the flexible circuit. The pillars are interconnected by sets of upper and lower bridges, with each set of bridges interconnecting some, but not all, the pillars. Each pillar has a rectangular cross section with concave sides.

An electrical connector assembly has a flexible circuit with a central portion that carries a contact field. Slots extending towards the central portion define a pair of strain arms that attach the flexible circuit to a clamp member. Forces transmitted to the strain arms are not communicated to the central portion of the flexible circuit.

A clamp connector assembly for forming a plurality of electrical connections between two circuit members includes a bottom plate below the circuit members, two retention posts extending upwardly from the bottom plate and through holes in a top plate above the circuit members, two rotary clamp members mounted on the upper ends of the retention posts with offset arms extending outwardly from the posts to facilitate manual rotation of the clamp members and actuation of assembly closing connections between the members and the top plate to force the top plate toward the bottom plate, clamp the circuit members together and form electrical connections between the circuit members.

Clamp connector assembly

A connector assembly includes a housing defining an interior recess, a top plate and a bottom plate on opposite sides of the housing and a compressible elastomer pad in the recess. A pin joined to one plate extends past the other plate and receives a clamp device to reduce the distance between the plates. Two circuit members are positioned between the housing and bottom plate and are held together to establish electrical connections by actuation of the clamp device.

An infinitely variable transmission requiring no external controls is shown in its preferred embodiment of the present invention as including a power housing rotatably mounted on an input and an output shaft. The output shaft includes a planetary cage and planetary gears located in the interior of the power housing. The planetary gears are in gearing relation with a sun gear located on the input shaft in the interior of the power housing and also in gearing relation with a ring gear formed as part of the power housing. The internal resistance of the transmission created by the drag and friction of the drive, planetary, and ring gears gearing together and the viscosity of the lubricant influences the rotation and acceleration of the output. Power trains according to the present invention may be utilized to influence the output acceleration by including input motors rotatably connected to the input and to the power housing and in a preferred form a distribution valve is added to regulate the power flow from the power source to the individual input motors. Power sources are further disclosed according to the present invention allowing a continuous chemical fluid combustion process for powering the two input motors.
