Photonic filter bank system and method of use

According to various embodiments, an all-optical thresholder device is disclosed. The all-optical thresholder device includes a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) coupled to a Mach-Zehnder coupler (MZC). The MZI includes at least one microring resonator (MRR) and a first tunable element, where the MRR further includes a second tunable element. The MZC includes a third tunable element. The first, second, and third tunable elements are configured to control biases of the all-optical thresholder device to achieve a desired power transfer function.

According to some embodiments, a network architecture is disclosed. The network architecture includes a plurality of processing network nodes. The network architecture further includes at least one broadcasting medium to interconnect the plurality of processing network nodes where the broadcasting medium includes an integrated waveguide. The network architecture also includes a broadcast and weight protocol configured to perform wavelength division multiplexing such that multiple wavelengths coexist in the integrated waveguide available to all nodes of the plurality of processing network nodes.

System and method for photonic processing

A photonic beamformer is disclosed andh is configured to transmit or receive a plurality of RF input signals from a plurality of antennas. The beamformer receiver includes a plurality of optical modulators, each optical modulator being configured to modulate each of the RF input signals onto an optical carrier, each carrier having a different wavelength. The beamformer receiver also includes a plurality of optical amplifiers, each optical amplifier being configured to vary the optical power of one optical carrier based on a weighting input and generate a weighted optical carrier. The beamformer receiver also includes a plurality of multi-beam optical true-time delays (TTD), each TTD being configured to receive all of the weighted optical carriers and generate a plurality time delayed optical carriers. The beamformer receiver also includes a plurality of detectors configured to detect each of the plurality time delayed optical carriers and generate an electrical signal that represents each of the plurality of received RF input signals.

An interference cancellation system (ICS) may be used with a communication system to prevent or minimize interference from one or more sources. The ICS may receive radio frequency (RF) signals comprised of one or more signals of interest (SOI) and multiple interfering signals. An interference estimation processor (IEP) may be used to estimate the one or more interfering signals. The interfering signals may be estimated using spatial and/or time diversity, which may be combined with statistical methods. The estimated interfering signals may be sent to the ICS, which may use the estimated interference signal to cancel the interference and output the SOI.

Remote interference cancellation for communications systems

Systems and methods for cancelling interference from a received signal in order to properly detect a signal of interest are disclosed. A combined signal of interest plus interference signal may be received. A copy or sample of the interference signal may be determined. The interference signal and the combined signal of interest plus interference signal may be converted to the optical domain. The interference signal may be optically phase shifted by &#x2212;180 degrees, which may result in an optically inverted interference signal. The optically inverted interference signal may be variably optically attenuated and/or variably optically time delayed, for example based on a detected output power of an optical subsystem of the interference cancellation system. As a result, interference cancellation of the interference signal from the combined signal of interest plus interference signal may be achieved, resulting in 50 dB or more of cancellation of the interference signal.

An optical integration circuit includes a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), a readout mechanism coupled to the SOA, and an optical filter coupled to an output of the SOA. The SOA has a decaying response function and an input for receiving an optical input signal having a first wavelength. The SOA is configured to output an optical signal representing a temporal integration of the optical input signal. The readout mechanism provides an optical readout signal having a second wavelength to the SOA for measuring a state of the SOA. The optical filter is configured to receive the signal representing the temporal integration of the optical input signal and block optical signals having the first wavelength.

Optical integration system and method

A system and method for cancellation of RF interference in the optical domain. The system and method utilize two Mach-Zehnder electrooptic modulators biased for parallel counter-phase modulation. The method of signal subtraction is referred to as incoherent optical subtraction, since two independent laser sources serve as the optical carrier waves. The system has produced the broadband cancellation result while simultaneously recovering a 50 dBm signal which was initially 'buried' under the broadband interference. The cancellation depths achieved by the system are due to the accurate channel tracking and precise time delays attainable with modern optical devices&#x2014;unattainable with state-of-the-art electronic devices at the time of this writing.

Optical counter-phase system and method of RF interference cancellation

Radio frequency transmission systems often suffer from the problem of co-site interference, where the frequency band of a strong radio transmitter overlaps with the frequency band of a co-located and/or remote radio receiver, such that the transmitter interferes with the ability of the receiver to detect a weak signal of interest. There is a need for a device that can process both the transmitted radio signal and the received radio signal to eliminate such interference. Previous attempts to solve this problem have been unable to cancel in-band interference in excess of 20 to 40 dB stronger than the signal of interest over a broad bandwidth, with large dynamic range, and with a high degree of linearity. Disclosed is a robust system and method for cancelling broadband in-band RF interference that operates in a dynamically changing multipath environment.
