A backed panel comprising a facing panel and a backing panel. The backing panel has a groove, recessed portion, or any other suitable type of relief channel adapted to receive a side edge portion of a facing panel of an adjacent backed panel. By providing a space to receive a side edge portion of an adjacent facing panel, the relief channel may enable an improved lap joint to be established between adjacent backed panels.

A backed paneling unit comprised of a backing portion that includes at least one of a depth portion and an elevated portion. An elevated portion and/or a depth portion may be formed using any suitable method including, but not limited to, molding, machining and heat stamping. Optionally, a backing portion may comprise a hydrophobic material. Such features may enable fluid flow (e.g., ventilation or liquid drainage) behind the backing portion.

A backed paneling unit comprised of a backing portion that includes at least one rib. In an exemplary embodiment, a rib may be adjacent to a drainage groove or between adjacent drainage grooves. A rib may enable ventilation behind the backing portion. In addition, a rib may also assist with liquid drainage.

A siding-plus-backer paneling unit that may provide a valley in the backer for improved adhesion strength, a ridge on another side of the backer for enabling ventilation, and a recess in an end of the backer for improved mating of adjacent paneling units.

The present invention is a vinyl siding panel and a method of making the vinyl siding panel. One embodiment of the vinyl siding panel comprises a planar row extending the longitudinal length of the vinyl siding panel. The siding panel may also have a slightly curved row. A reinforcement panel may be secured to the siding panel. In such case, the slightly curved row of siding may be secured to a planar portion of the reinforcement panel. In addition, an intermediate portion of the siding panel may be thicker than the outer portions of the siding panel.

A backed paneling unit providing a drainage pathway for liquids that might be behind the backing portion of the paneling unit. The paneling unit facilitates the drainage of liquid from behind the panel by providing grooves that are typically connected so as to allow the drainage to occur from behind a series of adjacent installed panels. Additional grooves are provided to provide alternative drainage pathways for a liquid in the event that at least a portion of a groove is obstructed.

A system for connecting and sealing panels comprising a bridge component with elevated and recessed surface features adapted to receive and bridge adjacent panels to form a weather-resistant seal and aesthetically pleasing appearance. By providing mating surface features to receive a side edge portion of an adjacent panel assembly, an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may enable an improved lap joint to be established between adjacent backed panels.

System and method for leveling or alignment of panels

A lineal for framing openings in buildings that may provide a finished appearance to the opening being framed. The lineal may be comprised of a nailing hem and an overhang. The lineal may additionally comprise a channel portion. The lineal with a channel portion may be manufactured as a one-piece or two-piece unit. The two-piece unit may have a portion that slides onto or snaps into the channel portion. The lineal may have insulation applied to its underside.

The present invention is a fence assembly comprising fence segments and connectors. Each fence segment may be secured to another fence segment by a connector. The present invention may use in-line connectors, living hinge connectors, male/female hinged connectors, and/or end caps. The connectors may be adapted to fit into the hollow channel rails by a friction fit, press fit, adhesion, or any other suitable connecting means.

A trim piece for use with siding. The trim piece includes a proximal end portion that is adapted to engage a support structure such as a clip. A cover piece extends from the proximal end portion. When used as top course molding, the cover piece may cover the nailing hem of an underlying piece of siding. A distal end portion of the cover piece may be comprised of a flexible plastic material in order to account for the slop of the siding.
