A method of printing with a printer of the type comprising a substantially linear arrangement of parallel pens mounted on a scan axis, each pen comprising an array of ink ejection elements, comprises printing a plurality of swaths, each from a different pen, on a printing medium between successive incremental advances of said medium in a printing advance direction (PAD) relative to the pens wherein said swaths are printed such that the boundaries of at least two of the swaths are offset from one another in the PAD. In a preferred method of the invention, the nozzles of the various pens are divided into active and inactive sets of nozzles, such that only the active nozzles are used to print the swaths and so that the different active nozzle sets each have offset endpoints in the PAD to print offset swath boundaries.

Banding reduction in incremental printing

Throughput of ink jet printers can be increased by using multiple print heads, each of which independently prints an image or text on a continuous roll of print media. Independently controlled printer carriages supporting the print heads simultaneously print images onto media since the printer carriages are separated by a distance that is substantially to equal to at least one dimension of the image to be printed.

Dual ink jet print carriage for web printing

A method of generating with an inkjet printer system a halftone image from image data comprising a plurality of contone data values, the system comprising a printhead arranged to print drops on a print medium whilst moving relative to the print medium in first and second directions, the method comprising the steps of: generating a first plurality of halftone data, each of the first halftone data being generated from a first proportion of a corresponding contone data value; generating a second plurality of halftone data, each of the second halftone data being generated from a second proportion of a corresponding contone data value; printing drops corresponding to the first plurality of halftone data in the first direction; and, printing drops corresponding to the second plurality of halftone data in the second direction.

Halftoning method and apparatus

The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for accomplishing inkjet printing. One aspect of the present invention is an inkjet printhead for use in an inkjet printing system for depositing ink on media. The inkjet printhead has a plurality of drop generators disposed on the printhead that are responsive to first and second select signals for selectively depositing ink on media. The inkjet printhead includes a plurality of contacts for receiving first and second select signals from the inkjet printing system. Also included is a plurality of electrical conductors each electrically connected between the plurality of contacts and selected drop generators of the plurality of drop generators, wherein in a multi-pass print-mode, the plurality of electrical conductors arc connected to the plurality of drop generators to uniformly distribute error resulting from a failure of one of the plurality of electrical conductors to provide one of the first and second select signals to the plurality of drop generators.
