A single arm telescoping mirror apparatus comprising a mirror base and mirror head. In one embodiment, a mirror base having a wear plate secured to a single support arm which frictionally engages a single telescoping tube of the mirror head. Furthermore, a mirror base having a roller assembly which frictionally engage the inner wall of a single telescoping tube of the mirror head. Frictional forces created minimize the telescopic or vibrational movement of the mirror head during use of a vehicle. In another aspect, a wear plate is secured to a single telescoping tube while, roller assemblies are attached to a support arm which frictionally engage ridges of the telescoping tube.

A rearview device for use with a vehicle includes a primary reflective element backing plate, a primary reflective element positioned on the primary reflective element backing plate, a secondary reflective element backing plate, a secondary reflective element positioned on the secondary reflective element backing plate, and an attachment mechanism including at least one clip or projection to attached the secondary reflective element to the primary reflective element backing plate. The attachment mechanism aligns a primary central axis of the primary reflective element to a secondary central axis of the secondary reflective element to be substantially parallel.

A side rearview vision assembly for a vehicle includes a base that is fixedly secured to the vehicle. A support arm is pivotally secured to the base. A positioning arm is secured to the support arm and is movable with respect to the support arm. The positioning arm defines a distal end. A camera is attached to the distal end of the positioning arm such that the camera moves with the positioning arm as the positioning arm moves relative to said support arm. The camera is configured to provide images exterior to the vehicle. A camera motor is operatively connected to the camera and changes its orientation with respect to the distal end of said positioning arm.

A safety mirror system for a motor vehicle includes at least one sun visor including a safety mirror having a mirror element in a folded down position, and at least one camera or monitoring system including a support arm pivotally secured to a base, the support arm pivotal between retracted and extended positions, a positioning arm secured to the support arm and movable with respect to the support arm and including a camera mount, and at least one camera attached to the camera mount at a distal end of the positioning arm, the camera configured to provide images exterior to the vehicle, wherein the safety mirror further includes at least one attachment structure configured to separately and selectively attach the safety mirror to each of the sun visor and the camera mount.

A rear-view side mirror assembly includes a base for attachment to a vehicle, one or more support arms extending from the base, and a rearview housing attached to the support arm and configured for telescoping movement along the support arm. A camera is attached within the housing. In some cases, the camera is attached to the support arms so as to remain stationary relative to the mirror base and vehicle as the mirror head telescopes inward and outward. An elongated aperture in the mirror head housing ensures that the camera lens is not occluded as the mirror head telescopes between a retracted position and an extended position.

A flexible track covers portions of the elongated aperture on alternate sides of the lens as the housing telescopes relative to the lens.

A side rear view mirror assembly is used in conjunction with a motor vehicle equipped with a blind spot sensor designed to detect objects in blind spots of the motor vehicle. The side rear view mirror assembly includes a base fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. A mirror case is movably secured to the base. The mirror case defines a housing and a mirror opening facing rearward. A backing light is operatively connected to the mirror case facing rearward. The backing plate is movable with respect to the mirror case. A mirror glass is fixedly secured to the backing plate and movable therewith in a manner allowing an operator of the motor vehicle to view rearward of the motor vehicle. The side rear view mirror assembly also includes a blind spot indicator fixedly secured to the backing plate and in communication with the blind spot sensor to receive signals from the blind spot sensor and to indicate to the operator of the motor vehicle when an object is in a blind spot of the motor vehicle. The blind spot indicator is directed at the operator when the operator moves the backing plate to adjust the mirror glass.

A method for creating a concave section of glass from a glass substrate having flat surfaces includes the use of a grinding wheel and a turntable. The method includes the steps of securing the glass substrates to the turntable. The turntable is then spun to create a turntable axis of rotation. The grinding wheel is rotated about a wheel axis of rotation such that the wheel axis of rotation is perpendicular to the turntable axis of rotation. The grinding wheel and the turntable move relative to each other along the turntable axis of rotation. The glass substrate is ground by the grinding wheel contacting the glass substrate to create the concave section of glass while the glass substrate is rotating about the wheel axis of rotation and moving relative to the turntable.
