A system for molding dispensing valves includes first and second mold sections, at least one of which is movable with respect to the other between a closed position in which the mold sections form a plurality of dispensing valve mold cavities, and an open position in which the mold sections are spaced from each other and the mold cavities are open along a mold parting line. A transfer mechanism is movable between the first and second mold sections in the open positions of the mold sections for receiving molded valves from the cavities and transferring the valves from between the mold sections.

Elastomeric dispensing valve manufacture

A two-piece dispensing closure (,) for removable attachment to a neck (,) of a liquid container (,), the dispensing closure having a molded plastic cap member (,) with an annular skirt (,) that surrounds an upper free end portion of the container neck, a transversely extending top panel portion (,) spanning the annular skirt with an opening (,) positioned centrally thereof, and an annular spout (,) extending axially from the top panel in a direction opposed to the direction of the extent of the annular skirt from the top panel, the annular spout circumscribing the opening in the top panel. A separate, elongate valve member (,) is inserted into the spout of the cap member to be reversibly axially movable relative to the cap member, the valve member having an elongate central portion (,) that defines an annular dispensing passage (,) with an interior of the spout of the cap member and an enlarged grasping projection (,) at a free end of the valve member. The valve member (,) also has an annular extension (,) at an innermost free end thereof, the annular extension having a radial extent greater than the radial extent of an interior of the annular spout, to prevent inadvertent disengagement of the valve member from the cap member upon manual movement of the valve member from an innermost position, where it prevents dispensing of liquid from the container, to an outermost position, where it permits dispensing of liquid from the container.

Tamper-indicating, two-piece dispensing closure

A tamper-indicating closure of integrally molded plastic construction that includes a base wall having a peripheral skirt with an internal thread for affixing the closure to the container finish. A tamper-indicating band is connected to an edge of the skirt by frangible bridges. A stop flange extends from an edge of the band remote from the skirt for abutment with a bead on the container finish to inhibit removal of the closure absent fracture of the frangible means. A plurality of circumferentially spaced openings extend radially through the skirt at a position between the frangible bridges and the internal thread. These openings provide for ingress of cleansing solution during a washing operation after the closure is applied to a container to flush any residue from between the tamper-indicating band and the closure finish. Drain openings preferably are provided in the stop flange and/or the tamper-indicating band to allow drainage of the flushing solution, and also to allow drainage of any accumulated liquid in wet-finish applications.

Tamper-indicating closure and method of manufacture

The dispenser comprises a hollow body formed adjacent its upper end with an inward and downward annular flap. The method involves the molding of the body with the flap inclined upward. A tool is inserted into the open end of the body to fold the flap downward. In assembly, with the tool removed and the flap thus folded, the plunger moves past the flap so that the flap thereafter engages a shoulder on the plunger and forms an obstacle to the subsequent removal, accidental or otherwise, of the plunger.

Pump dispenser and method for making same

A tamper-indicating closure of integrally molded plastic construction that include a base wall having a peripheral skirt with internal threads for engaging external threads on a container finish. A tamper-indicating band is connected to the edge of the skirt by a plurality of circumferentially spaced integral frangible bridges. A stop flange extends from an edge of the band remote from the skirt for engagement with a bead on the container finish. The stop flange has a circumferentially continuous free edge remote from the band disposed in a plane parallel to the base wall. A plurality of circumferentially spaced openings are disposed in the stop flange adjacent to the band for drainage of liquid from between the closure skirt and the container finish. A plurality of circumferentially spaced gussets in the stop flange are at the free edge of the ring, with each gusset being disposed between an adjacent pair of drainage openings. The gussets function during inversion of the stop flange, from an axially outward orientation as molded to an axially inward orientation for use, to absorb compressive stresses on the flange and thereby isolate portions of the flange surrounding the drainage openings from such compressive stresses. A plurality of circumferentially spaced lugs are molded on the inside surface of the closure for opposed abutment with the bead on the finish to help facilitate drainage from between the skirt and finish.
