A multimodal biometric authentication system utilizes a bulk absorption characteristic of human tissue that is measurable using a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor. One disclosed method of operation includes extracting bulk absorption features from biometric data obtained using a PPG sensor and generating a first biometric template. Additional biometric features are also extracted from biometric data obtained using a second biometric sensor and a second biometric template is also generated. An authentication output signal is provided in response to the first biometric template matching a first stored corresponding enrolled biometric template and the second biometric template matching a second stored corresponding enrolled biometric template.

A multimodal biometric authentication system utilizes a bulk absorption characteristic of human tissue that is measurable using a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor. One disclosed method of operation includes extracting bulk absorption features from biometric data obtained using a PPG sensor and generating a first biometric template. Additional biometric features are also extracted from biometric data obtained using a second biometric sensor and a second biometric template is also generated. An authentication output signal is provided in response to the first biometric template matching a first enrolled biometric template and the second biometric template matching a second enrolled biometric template.

In cellular communication systems, hand-offs are performed to maintain links as subscriber units (110) and beams move relative to each other. The hand-off determination procedure (500) is performed in overlap regions (240, 340). Candidate beams are identified and hand-off types are determined based on the satellite (120) associated with the candidate beam. Thresholds are established and changed to optimize a hand-off request determination procedure (500). Two hand-off types are considered. An inter-satellite hand-off is requested (514) when the current beam and the candidate beam are on different satellites (120). An intra-satellite hand-off is requested (510) when the current beam and the candidate beam are on the same satellite (120). Thresholds are dynamically changed and algorithms are used to minimize the number of inter-satellite hand-offs.

In a transmitter (100), circuitry is employed to automatically calibrate errors in a modulated carrier signal. A generator (320) is activated to generate (510) a low frequency square wave for use as data, which is used to generate a modulating signal from which the modulated carrier signal is generated. The modulated carrier signal is down-converted to an intermediate frequency (IF) signal having a steady state IF signal level. Method and apparatus for automatic modulation calibration in a radio

In a paging system that includes a system controller, an active repeater, and a backup repeater, data integrity during a repeater transition is assured. As each repeater receives a stream of paging information from the system controller, the repeaters store it. When the repeater transition occurs, the backup repeater determines the paging messages that were not transmitted during the repeater transition based on the most recently stored stream of paging information. Subsequently, the backup repeater transmits a paging failure message to the system controller indicating the paging messages that were not transmitted. Upon receiving this, the system controller commands the backup repeater to retransmit the paging messages that were not transmitted during the repeater transition.

A simulcast transmission system (100) utilizes adaptive demodulation to provide a method and apparatus for automatic delay equalization measurements. The simulcast transmission system (100) comprises a control station (101), and a plurality of remote transmission stations (201, 301) capable of re-transmitting a received delay equalization measurement signal which includes at least a correction bit pattern signal followed by a synchronization pattern signal. The control station (101) comprises a transmitter (131, 181) which transmits the delay equalization measurement signal, a receiver (151, 191) which receives the re-transmitted delay equalization measurement signal, a correlator (115, 762) which correlates the received synchronization pattern signal to obtain a coarse time of reception, a correction bit pattern analyzer (115, 776-802) which analyzes the received correction bit pattern signal to derive a fine reception time correction factor, and a time corrector (115, 804) which corrects the coarse time of reception with the fine reception time correction factor to obtain a corrected time of reception of the delay equalization measurement signal at the control station (101).
