An approach is presented for client initiated provisioning. A provisioning manager determines a client-based trigger for requesting a provisioning of a client device to access a network. The provisioning manager processes and/or facilitates a processing of the client-based trigger to generate a provisioning request, and then causes, at least in part, transmission of the provisioning request to a provisioning server associated with the network. The provisioning manager receives provisioning information from the provisioning server for processing to gain access to the network.

Method and apparatus for on-demand client-initiated provisioning

An approach is provided for selecting, by a multi-mode device, one among multiple networks. A plurality of overlay parameters associated with a plurality of networks are acquired, wherein the networks are different from one another. Each of the networks is rated using the overlay parameters according to one or more selection criteria. One of the networks is selected based on the rating.

Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating exchange of configuration indicia associated with a mobile node operable in a radio communication system. The mobile node is dynamically-configurable, and includes a logic tree. The indicia is provided to a network manager responsive to request therefore or upon initiation by the mobile node. When initiated at the network, a request message generator located at a network manager generates a get message to request that certain configuration indicia be provided to the network manager. The invention provides a system and method for managing a mobile station wirelessly. The control software includes a dynamic agent operating program and a group of objects linked to the dynamic agent operating program. Some of the objects allow the mobile station to utilize services, such as accessing the Internet or E-mail services. Additional objects for providing access to new services may be wirelessly transmitted from a management server to the mobile station over the air and stored in the mobile station. Users may selectively delete and download objects to customize the services available through their mobile stations while minimizing the memory requirements of the mobile station.

A method includes provisioning a multi-mode wireless communications terminal with at least one system priority list (SPL) having information that identifies a plurality of wireless network system types and, for each identified wireless network system type, at least one wireless network of that type. The method selects from the SPL a wireless network for service selectively based on one of a manually specified priority, a priority specified automatically and a priority that is specified for use automatically only during a power-on mode of operation.
