Disclosed is a method comprising: a) dispersing a first monomer mixture comprising least one least monomer, the first monomer mixture having a total glass transition temperature (Tg) in the range of from &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;65&#xb0; C. with a surfactant and an initiator in an aqueous medium; b) when the first monomer mixture is completely dispersed, adding a second monomer mixture comprising at least one monomer, the second monomer mixture having a Tg at least 20&#xb0; C. greater than the Tg of the first monomer mixture, to the aqueous medium; c) when the second monomer mixture is completely dispersed, adding a third monomer mixture comprising at least one monomer, the third monomer mixture having a Tg in the range of from &#x2212;25&#xb0; C. to 50&#xb0; C.; and d) forming a polymer with the first, second, and third monomer mixtures. Also disclosed is a pressure sensitive adhesive comprising the polymer formed by this method.

Methods of making pressure sensitive adhesive compositions

Provided is a process for producing a coating on a substrate comprising one or more steps of crushing a dried layer of a foamed aqueous coating composition, wherein the aqueous coating composition comprises a collection of multi-stage copolymer particles having a weight average diameter of 2-20 &#x3bc;m, wherein said multi-stage copolymer particles comprise a core having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 20&#xb0; C. or less. Also provided is a coated substrate made by that process.

Crushed foam coating

A tamper-evident package utilizes a transparent resealable adhesive structure such as a tape or a label to cover the closure opening. Upon a first opening of the package frangible portions of the package front between adjacent arcuate cuts and slits defining the opening are torn. This tearing distorts the packaging film so that re-registration of the opposing lateral edges upon reclosing is not possible. This results in a package which is visually tamper-evident. The tamper-evident condition can be enhanced by graphics or other printing on the front of the package in the area of the closure to make the misalignment of a resealed closure viewed through the transparent structure more visually apparent. In one embodiment of the invention a series of arcuate cuts are centered laterally and are flanked on the right and left sides by two continuous wavy slits which form a portion of the closure opening.

Tamper-evident, tear-open resealable package

A method for forming a dispersible nonwoven substrate in an aqueous medium including: a) forming an aqueous nonwoven binder including a selected emulsion polymer wherein the polymer has been modified with a compound comprising a tri-substituted N-atom, the compound having a pKb of from 4 to 7; b) contacting a nonwoven substrate with the aqueous nonwoven binder; c) heating the contacted nonwoven to a temperature of from 120&#xb0; C. to 220&#xb0; C.; and d) immersing the contacted heated nonwoven in an aqueous medium having a final pH&#x3c;5 is provided. A dispersible nonwoven substrate in an aqueous medium formed by the preceding method and a method for providing a dispersed nonwoven in an aqueous medium are also provided.

Dispersible nonwoven

Provided is a fiberglass binder which contains a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol, with a pH of the binder being no greater than 3.5. It is further preferred that the polycarboxy polymer has a molecular weight of less than 10,000, and more preferably about 5000 or less. The binder also preferably includes a catalyst which is an alkali metal salt of a phosphorus polyol is preferably triethanolamine. The binder also preferably includes a catalyst which is an alkali metal salt of a phosphorus-containing organic acid. The resultant binder, particularly when used in preparing fiberglass products, provides minimal processing difficulties and a product with excellent recovery and rigidity.

Polycarboxy/polyol fiberglass binder of low pH

A method for flexibilizing a glass fiber nonwoven bound with a cured urea formaldehyde resin binder is provided in which the binder includes a cured urea formaldehyde resin and 0.5-5% by weight, based on the weight of the urea formaldehyde resin, of a water-soluble polymer comprising 40-100% by weight, based on polymer weight, of a polymerized ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, the polymer having a weight average molecular weight from 100,000 to 2,000,000.

Method for flexibilizing cured urea formaldehyde resin-bound glass fiber

A process for preparing binder-coated fiber-glass products employs as a binder aqueous polymer systems comprising a nitrogenous formaldehyde resin such as a urea-extended alkaline phenol/formaldehyde resole together with an acidic polyacrylate which cocure to form a thermoset polymer while synergistically reducing ammonia emissions which normally occur during cure of the nitrogenous formaldehyde resin. The polymer system may be used in applications other than fiberglass where reduced emissions are desired.
