An adjustable support liner for securely holding a workpiece centered in a machine tool that includes an elongated sleeve having a plurality of clamping units mounted therein capable of holding the work centered in the machine in an undistorted posture. Each clamping unit contains a ring-like body for encompassing the work that is formed of two hinged sections. Each section, in turn, has an axially extended jaw member depending outwardly therefrom and means to rotate the jaws between a fully opened and a fully closed position whereby a symmetrical centering pressure can be continually applied by the jaws over the entire working range of the apparatus.

Adjustable spindle liner

A vibratory outfeed conveyor has a base, a feed strip resiliently mounted on the base, and a vibrator connected to the feed strip for feeding objects. A mounting bracket extends downward generally perpendicularly from the base, and an upper region of the mounting bracket is secured to a vertical surface of a support element so that the base extends horizontally over the upper surface of the support element. Spacers support the base above the upper surface of the support element so that a midregion of the base between the spacers is bendable downward. Screws engage the vertical surface and the lower region of the mounting bracket for moving the lower region of the mounting bracket away from the vertical surface while the upper region of the mounting bracket is secured to the vertical surface to apply leverage force to the base bending the midregion of the base toward the upper surface and pressing the free end of the base downward to hold the free end securely in place. Such an arrangement securely fixes the base in place without requiring fasteners or hold-down means arranged at the free end of the base.

Vibratory outfeed

The inventive orienter is used in the output path of a vibratory feeder for axially orienting uniform cylinders. It includes a tube having a side opening spaced from the input end and extending axially along a portion of the tube so cylinders that are not axially oriented fall through the side opening and down to a lower region of the feeder. The tube is rotationally oriented for positioning the lower edge of the side opening relative to a vertical plane through the axis of the tube so that the axially oriented cylinders move along the tube while overhanging the lower edge, and cylinders not axially oriented slide toward the bottom of the tube and fall over the lower edge and through the side opening. The tube preferably has a top opening at the input end, and the top opening preferably overlaps with the side opening so that relatively tall cylinders can enter the input end of the tube standing up and be rejected when they enter the side opening region. The orienter also preferably includes an adjustable inclined ramp for toppling the cylinders into the input end of the tube to facilitate axial orientation of relatively short cylinders.
